Everyone knows that beaches are romantic, right? Walking barefoot in sand & surf, playing tag with the waves….awwww. But there are other natural locations that offer their own distinctive glow.
The rainforest – Lazing in a hammock while a tropical storm sweeps through the verdant forest, leaving everything sparkling and sultry in its wake. A nighttime canoe paddles under star-studded skies, the sounds of the night forest alive all around you. Exhilarating and sensuous, all at the same time. At the top of my list is the Napo Wildlife Center in Ecuador. It is located adjacent to 82 sq miles of Yasunì National Park and UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, the largest tract of protected tropical rain forest in Ecuador.
The Mountains – Specifically an Andean hacienda, tucked away amidst volcanic peaks. Spend the day hiking alpine trails, horseback riding, visiting colorful village markets. Then return home to a roaring fireplace and glass of wine in your own private living room suite. It's a hard choice, but Hacienda Zuleta is my top choice at the moment. Found in the spectacular Andean mountain range of Ecuador at 9,600 feet (2,800 meters) above the sea level, and only two hours north of Quito, the capital of Ecuador. Zuleta is a colonial working farm of 4,000 acres that belongs to the family of Mr. Galo Plaza Lasso, a former president of Ecuador, for more than 100 years. It was chosen as one of the world’s “Top Ten Finds” by Outside magazine and named as one of the best Ecuador Hotel by National Geographic Traveler.
A premier yacht in the Galapagos Islands – Hike, snorkel, and kayak all day with sea lions, penguins and myriad other wildlife – who have absolutely NO fear of you and even invite play. Return to your luxury Galapagos yacht as the sun sets for a romantic cocktail hour under the Equatorial skies as the soft whoosh of the yacht’s wake brings its own rhythms to the night. Retire to your lovely cabin with a bottle of wine, knowing you’ll do it all again the next day! Now that is living romantically! I honestly can’t say I have a favorite, but you can view all of our Galapagos vessels and find your own favorite!
