Why Costa Rica is the Happiest Country in the World!

Posted by on

Hola, my name is Grettel and I am Wildland Adventures Costa Rica Program Director. Costa Rica is a great place to visit and to live year round. I love this tiny country and feel truly blessed for being born a Tica. Costa Rica is a perfect hideaway for EVERYONE! From family travel with young children and teenagers to couples looking for a romantic getaway, to young adults looking for active adventures and even seniors in search of a more relaxed vacation. Nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts will  truly enjoy everything from a single cutter ant carrying a leaf to facing a puma in the jungle. Costa Rica is also a paradise for those looking to get a little "pampered" on their vacation and to recharge their body and mind. What better place to do yoga, meditation or visit a world class spas? There truly is something for everyone here!

I could write a book about why Costa Rica is so special, but the most important fact is definitely the PURA VIDA people. Pura Vida is our special motto and it means almost everything! But mostly “hello”, “farewell” and to express you are living life to the fullest. It also means "cool", "I am doing fine" and "good job”. This magic phrase has the power to put a smile on your face when you need it the most, it also tells how someone feels about another person. In general it conveys how we live happy and proud of our country. Which is not really ours, it has no boundaries when you open your heart. Anyone who comes to share the joy of experiencing different cultures with respect, love and compassion is welcome. No wonder Costa Rica is considered the happiest country in the world according to the New Economics Foundation’s Happy Planet Index. Other Central American countries that we offer tours including Belize, Panama and Guatemala also made the top 10 list. I think there is something about Central America and the tropics! The weather is warm, the beaches are sublime and the people are very friendly. In most corners of the country one has a feeling of peace, freedom and government stability. We live in a demilitarized region, where we invest in education rather than weapons. When you arrive in Costa Rica you'll be immersed in the leisurely lifestyle and disregard for time. When you return home you'll take the Pura Vida lifestyle with you and hopefully some day these words will spread and become global. Not just the words, but the state of inner well-being. Why wait? Visit Costa Rica NOW and experience Pura Vida for yourself!

Your friendly Costa Rican,

Grettel Calderon
