Ecuador Has it All

Ecuador Has it All
Galapagos, Guayaquil and Giant Otters Update on Ecuador's Andes, Amazon and Enchanted Island Archipelago I’ve had several weeks to reflect on my recent trip to the Galapagos Islands and the Napo Wildlife Center Amazon jungle lodge in Yasuni National Park, and remain more convinced than ever that the tiny country of Ecuador is one of the best travel destinations in all of South America for its ecological diversity and rich cultural heritage. Galapagos I voyaged through Galapagos onboard one of our three most popular yachts, the 20-passenger Eric, Flamingo and Letty . I consider these vessels to be one of the best values in Galapagos for their exceptional guides, lowest passenger-to-guide ratio at 10:1 (or less), and multiple cabin options with corresponding prices to fit every traveler's needs. These yachts also rank high on our sustainability goals with their Smart Voyager certification. Right now, our Thanksgiving voyage from November 21-December 1,...

What a wonderful safari in Tanzania

What a wonderful safari in Tanzania
Working with Wildland Adventures and Jeff was a pleasure. All questions were promptly answered in the planning stages and we were thoroughly prepared for the adventure of a lifetime. We had the right clothes, equipment, and medical preparation. I have never been so well prepared for travel to a specific destination as I was for our safari in Tanzania . There were many highlights and glorious moments - witnessing the birth of a wildebeest, watching a pride of nine lions feasting on a giraffe, watching a hippo saunter by our vehicle, hearing George's exact replication of specific animal sounds, being surrounded by elephants crossing the road, and so many others. Samson and George were phenomenal at spotting animals and birds that were far away. I cannot say enough good words about our guides. They were the stars of our experience in that they added a much greater dimension to the animals,...

Why You Should Explore Guayaquil on Your Next Trip to the Galapagos

Why You Should Explore Guayaquil on Your Next Trip to the Galapagos
Since the day I took the desk of the Ecuador & Galapagos Program Director at Wildland Adventures, we have focused our land arrangements in the capitol city of Quito. There’s a lot to be said for this arrangement: Quito is a UNESCO World Heritage site for very good reason, and it is the obvious gateway to the world famous market town of Otavalo as well as other charming Andean villages. The only flights to Ecuador’s incredible Amazon basin depart from Quito, and the birding heaven of Mindo-Tandayapa is a convenient 2 hour drive from Quito. But Quito isn’t the only star in the Ecuadorian firmament. On my recent trip to Ecuador this spring, I spent more time in Guayaquil on the Pacific delta of the Rio Guayas, and came away very impressed with that city’s attractions and advantages: Transfer times between the cities’ airports and main tourist centers are hugely different!...

Save $1000 per person on the Grace Yacht in the Galapagos

Save $1000 per person on the Grace Yacht in the Galapagos
As we all know, the Galapagos Islands is one of the world's most sought-after destinations, and this year readers of USA Today voted it the ultimate bucket list trip . Why? Simply put: It’s the one of the best destinations in the world--and one of the most pristine--for people of any generation to closely and safely interact with animals in the wild. Where else can you go snorkeling with penguins, sea lions and sea turtles all in the same outing and come face to face with a 100 year old giant tortoise in the wild?  We want to remind you of a little-known secret.  There are ways to actually save money and have the Galapagos more to yourselves at the same time.  Seriously! It’s all about timing and opportunity.  Between late Fall and into the beginning if Winter there is lots of wildlife activity, fewer travelers, and more personal time with the...

Great Time in Borneo

703
Guest review from our  Untamed Borneo Adventure I have travelled extensively and it is very rare to find such a combination of friendly helpful people, secure and safe surroundings and incredibly unique and varied wildlife as what we had in Borneo. The lodges/resorts were very good and really went out of their way to provide an excellent experience for the guests. The river cruises were superb, our guide at Borneo Rainforest Lodge found us some of the world's rarest birds and the snorkeling at Sipadan Island was astounding. Thanks for a great experience. Sipadan was great. They took the divers on 3 "dives" per day. One day was at Sipadan Island. It was fantastic, really unbelievable. I have done some snorkeling in the Galapagos and other places, but this was truly outstanding.      I have had many very experienced travelers tell me that Borneo Rainforest Lodge was one of the...
