Why It’s Never Been Better To Travel To Cuba

Travel-to-Cuba-is-Still-Legal-for-Americans
Obama announced a warming of relations between Cuba and the United States in December 2014, making it possible for Americans traveling to Cuba with specific educational licenses. Then in November 2017, the Trump administration announced certain changes, most notably that although travel under Educational Activities (People to People Travel) is stil...

New in the Wild

New in the Wild
Hola! As the new South America program director, I wanted to take the time to introduce myself and also take a moment to thank Kirsten Gardner for paving the way for me and offering such great support and guidance as I assume this position. My name is Gretchen Traut and I was born in New York City and raised in Seattle.  My family has roots in Germany and along the Slovak/Polish border which resulted in frequent travels to Europe during my childhood to visit relatives and family friends. My family’s strong heritage and yearly travels ignited within me a deep and ever-broadening desire to venture into the unknown and seek out intercultural experiences and adventures. The vast majority of my adult life I have spent abroad, as I have constantly looked for new ways to study, teach and travel internationally on my own.  I think that, as international citizens in this...

We are having a FABULOUS time in Turkey

We are having a FABULOUS time in Turkey
We love getting updates from our guests while they are traveling, recently we received this from a guest on one of our trips to Turkey."Just a quick note to let you know that we are having a FABULOUS time. Deniz is the best and shares our love of getting lost. We feel like we are traveling with a good friend and not a guide! This is truly turning into the adventure of a lifetime. We love, love, love the flexibility of the schedule. You did a fabulous job of planning this portion and Wildland knows the best in country operators. More when we get back!"Cheers!!!Susan LopinotGuest on Wildland Adventures Turquoise Coast Odyssey

Nat Geo Honors Bedouin Trek to Petra

Excitement reigns/rains at Wildland Adventures this week! For the fifth time, National Geographic Traveler has named one of our trips among its “50 Tours of a Lifetime!” Our Bedouin Trek to Petra claimed its place on the list, and this is indeed a well-deserved honor. Our trekking guide extraordinaire, Yamaan Safady, offers Wildland Adventurers a unique and privileged exploration of his ancient country and its history. This is an exhilarating journey through a spectacular landscape rarely seen by outsiders capped by entry to the fabled Nabatean city of Petra via the breathtaking Monastery. Perhaps equally important, Yamaan introduces travelers to today’s Jordan, a dynamic kingdom of mixed cultures and inhabitants, both strikingly modern yet timeless all at once. Jordan retains its place as a vital crossroads of humanity even today. I invite you to join us and Yamaan on that path this year, and find out why National Geographic and Wildland...

Turkey: Where East Meets West, Past Meets Future

It was 22 years ago here in Turkey when my local guide, Alper Ertubey, and I declared we would establish a partnership to bring Wildland travelers closer to the people and the places of Turkey. I wanted our travelers to experience Turkiye like I remember it when I came here in the late 60's to stay with my aunts and uncles who lived on the Asian side of the Bosphorus. Dad was born in Istanbul in 1922 into the generation of "Young Turks" when Attaturk established the new parliamentary democracy after the Ottoman Empire. Although I was raised in Los Angeles, we came here several times when I was in high school to stay with relatives in their apartment at a time with Turkey was still closed to much of the world to protect its fledgling economy. Oh how it has changed today! Today, Alper is not only our in-country trip...
