Wildland Does South America Better Than Anyone!

Wildland Does South America Better Than Anyone!
This 3-time alumni family just returned from a holiday adventure to Chile and Argentina, doing a custom Best of Patagonia  trip visitng: Atacama, Valparaiso, Santiago, Torres del Paine, El Calafate and Buenos Aires.  Continue reading as they share their incredible experience: "This was another outstanding Wildland trip! We have traveled with Wildland 3 times before and have loved the trips. We believe you all do South America better than anyone! We were incredibly grateful for all of Gretchen's help in planning this trip and her patience in helping with the changes and questions along the way. We were especially grateful and impressed with how Gretchen and others helped us when our daughter missed her connection. The Delta agents kept telling her not to go to Santiago because of the strike but she left anyway and we kept our fingers crossed that it would work. Thanks to all of you, she made it...

Mystical, Magical, Mysterious and Awe Inspiring

Mystical, Magical, Mysterious and Awe Inspiring
This couple just returned from almost a month of travel on a custom trip to Argentina and Peru adventure.  Gary recounts some of their favorite moments while in South America.“We had heard great feedback from my wife’s sister who went to Peru in the preceding year with Wildland. Wildland’s open approach, the low key nature of their interactions interspersed with enthusiasm at the highest level, and the feedback from more than one person were enough to ensure that we were going with "like minded" folks in selecting Wildland. It turned out to be absolutely the case. The entire itinerary was a fantastically put together sequence that we all worked together on. Great collaboration throughout. Our favorite memories of the trip were:  [In chronological order as they happened on the trip]: (1) Roaming around freestyle in Buenos Aires and staying at Legado Mitico while doing so. It's a magical and very comfortable city, environs,...

The Hiking was Wonderful!!

The Hiking was Wonderful!!
This active family of four just returned from a custom Hikers Patagonia Adventure in Patagonia and share some of their incredible experiences:“First of all, we enjoyed all the hiking- it was wonderful!!Second, we loved all of our guides!  Lorena in Santiago took care of us well. Chris in Patagonia Camp was good and entertaining. Ismail, Frederico in Calafate were great. Andres in El Chalten was especially good. Had a nice pace for hiking and just an easy guy to be around for 9-10 hours. His knowledge of geology was great and interesting to us.Patagonia Camp yurts were fun, unique, warm, cozy, and loved that they were separated. El Puma, in El Chalten, was very comfortable and well situated. Loved Alta Vista in El Calafate because I wouldn't have wanted to be in town. I loved hiking from the house and riding the horses was special. Alta Vista’s meals  were exceptional. I...

The Best Trip We Ever Took!

The Best Trip We Ever Took!
After an exhilarating 17-day customized In The Wake of Magellan adventure, exploring Patagonia, Buenos Aires, and Iguazu Falls, these two travelers share their initial insights upon return home.“We are returned from South America, and it was the trip of a lifetime! We both seriously thought it was probably the best trip we ever took!Very briefly, we were amazed at the amount of organization that so many transfers, flights, connections, and pre-paid fees were necessitated, and are truly amazed that you had it all organized and that it all went so smoothly. Guides would ask, "Did you pay for ?.....", and while we looked at each other with blank faces, the guide would look through our papers and then say, "Yeah, you're all set." We are very impressed. Also - the guides were consistently excellent, really excellent. And the food and wine at Singular, on the ship, and at Nuss was unbelievable!Thank you...

Empanadas Para Morirse! // Empanadas to Die For!

Empanadas Para Morirse! // Empanadas to Die For!
When I was 15 I moved to a small town in the Pampas of Argentina as an exchange student. Knowing absolutely no Spanish upon arrival (besides hola and la cucaracha- neither being the most helpful), I found numerous other ways to communicate with my local family and hosts- my favorite being through food! Learning a culture’s culinary traditions is by far and away one of the best ways to gain new perspectives on who people are and where they come from. My host mom and I immediately hit it off as I started learning to cook some of Argentina’s favorite dishes from her. One of my favorite dishes, that I still love to bake with friends and family, is Empanadas. Empanadas are the beloved comfort food of much of Latin America and come in numerous sizes, shapes and delicious flavor variations. The name Empanada comes from the Spanish word “empanar” or...
