Best Bang for Your Buck on the Blue Dollar Rate in Argentina

Best Bang for Your Buck on the Blue Dollar Rate in Argentina
I often get questions from our travelers about the Blue Market Dollar Rate in Argentina and thought it would be a good idea to write about it for those trying to get the best bang for their buck so to speak while traveling in Argentina. In Argentina there 3 official exchange rates: 1) The real estate rate (not important for travelers) 2) The Official bank exchange rate (around 1 USD to approx 9 Argentine Pesos) 3) The Blue Market rate (around 1 USD approx 14 ARS) Travelers will of course only get the official rate at ATMs in Argentina and if they exchange money in the banks. The best way to take advantage of the Blue Market Rate is by bringing US cash ($20, $50 and/or $100 notes) and exchanging money at your hotels. Almost all hotels will gladly exchange your US cash at a much higher rate than what the...

Chasing the Craft Beer Craze in Argentina

Chasing the Craft Beer Craze in Argentina
This afternoon, after speaking with two wild travelers, wanting to make sure they find some tasty brews while traveling in Argentina, I felt compelled to share my thoughts on the craft brew scene in Argentina.   The craft beer scene has been taking over the US by force over the past decade.  Why leave your craft beer obsession at home while traveling? The South America Craft Brew scene has also exploded in recent years and is definitely worth checking out. On your next trip to Argentina, if you need a short break from all the Malbec, check out some of these four awesome beer destinations with links to RateBeer.com to check out how these brews stack up! 1) Bariloche: located in northern Argentine Patagonia, Bariloche was founded by swiss and german immigrants.  They have a long tradition of craft beer brewing.  There are numerous outdoor activities to do in Bariloche, or just...

A Tomar Una Copa Festiva! (To a Celebratory Drink!)

A Tomar Una Copa Festiva! (To a Celebratory Drink!)
Fourth of July is just around the corner and what better way to celebrate than with a special festive drink from my favorite destination- Fernet from Argentina!? One of my first memories of going out with friends in Argentina, was on a warm night in March- Argentina’s late summer. A well-intentioned friend handed me a glass of dark medicinal, smelling liquor, better known as Fernet, and then proceeded to flood the glass with Coca-Cola. “Toma! Es nuestra bebida nacional! Drink! It's our national drink” I took a gulp.  The bitter flavor of Fernet perfectly complimented by the sweet, fizzy cola is refreshing and absolutely bizarre- it took me years of living in Argentina to finally appreciate and, dare I say, LIKE, Fernet! Though my first experience with trying Fernet was one mostly of utter shock at the complex and foreign flavor, I have grown to love it and associate it with sharing...

Custom Patagonia: Way beyond expectations!

Custom Patagonia: Way beyond expectations!
Gary was a solo traveler, outdoor-enthusiast looking for a customized Patagonia Adventure. His wild style and enthusiasm is the epitome of what we love to see in our travelers! “The basic idea of the trip was mine as I wanted to visit and experience Patagonia. I had read about Patagonia Camp but knew little else about how to put this total "package" together. I love the outdoors and wanted to experience as much of Patagonia as I could within my time constraints. The end result of the trip clearly showed me that Gretchen listened to me in our initial discussions concerning what I was looking to do and experience. I very much appreciated her input and willingness to alter the details of the trip when necessary. Looking back I cannot honestly say what you could have done to have made things better or easier. Wildland Adventures’ pre-departure packet and itinerary were...

Traversing Mountains and Cultures with Paula and Frank

Traversing Mountains and Cultures with Paula and Frank
Paula and Frank just returned from their Hiker’s Patagonia trip to Chile and Argentina- their FOURTH Wildland Adventure! Here they share their personal highlights, thoughts on guides and advice for future travelers. Please enjoy some of their incredible pictures of Patagonia that truly convey the remote, wild and magnificent splendor that this untamed austral landscape has to offer.HIGHLIGHTS:"We enjoyed the hiking experiences the most. Torres del Paine and the Fitzroy range were our major goals, and we were lucky enough to have 2 out of 3 days in each place for good visibility. I enjoyed Chile more than Argentina for the other aspects of the trip. The hotel in Santiago was excellent. The food in all of Chile was great – especially the vegetarian options. The accommodations at Patagonia Camp were perfect. We also liked the room at Alta Vista, in El Calafate, Argentina. All the people along the way were...
