Victoria Falls and Rhino Walking Safari in Zambia

Victoria Falls on our Southern Africa safari as seen from the walking path on the Zambia side. The two main highlights starting out our safaris in Botswana , Zambia and Zimbabwe was flying into Livingston and seeing Victoria Falls and then walking with rangers to see endangered white rhinos. The all-inclusive Wilderness Safaris camp of Toka Leya is right on the Zambezi and is one of the most well located camps in this area. There are a plethora of activities that can easily fit into two days here and they include our walk on the Zambia side of Victoria Falls, a game drive within Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park, a sunset river boat safari, and a guided walk in the local village of Mkuni providing insights about the people and village culture of this part of Zambia.   Many of the staff at Toka Leya are from the local village of Mkuni with whom...

On The Zambezi Between Zambia and Zimbabwe

Our first sundowner on our Zambia safari on the Zambezi. It’s utterly unworldly going directly from our night at the JFK Airport Garden Suites Hotel to our luxurious Toka Leya tent camp having dinner with a hippo walking below our feet. After 15 hours of flying time without nightfall we find ourselves in a hazy daze having sundowners on the banks of Zambezi River amongst colorful bee eaters, big crocs and eles in the secure company of Nelson, our new friend and exceptional boatman/naturalist guide. Nelson, our boatman on the Zambezi. One of many skilled and exceptionally lovely African guides and boatmen taking us through the wilds on safari in Zambia and Botswana. This was the first of many gin and tonics to come in the African bush as we set out to meet up with our guides and outfitters from Zambia to Zimbabwe, traveling to Botswana and South Africa inspecting...

Botswana Named Top Destination in 2013

Fodor’s just recently named Botswana as one of the top destinations to visit in 2013 and for good reason.  Safaris in Botswana are THE place to go for a truly WILD adventure into the Africa Wilderness, far away from signs of human development like fences, roads, and cities. Botswana’s, and perhaps Africa’s crown jewel, The Okavango Delta is widely known as the Garden of Eden. The world’s richest and largest inland delta system is home to some of the last great herds of iconic mammals such as elephants, buffalo and zebra. Travelers experience the wilderness from the comforts of a tented camp, either permanent or mobile, and thus there is no “commuting” to the wildlife like in other parks and reserves. The Kalahari Desert often is traveled to as an extension to the Reserves and Parks like Okavango and Chobe with stunning open vistas, unique Kalahari game viewing, interactions with local Bushman...
