Escorted Trek to Machu Picchu and the Virgen del Carmen Festival

If you still haven’t made summer travel plans, consider joining me in Peru this July on what is surely a once-in-a-lifetime trip, trekking to Machu Picchu via the Salkantay route and celebrating an authentic Peruvian festival with locals on our Escorted Trek to Machu Picchu + Virgen del Carmen Festival trip.   We only feature this trip once every few years and space is limited to 12 participants.      Beneath the towering snowy peaks of Mt. Salkantay (meaning Savage Mountain in Quechua), we’ll hike along high mountain passes, meet local Quechua communities and engage in traditional customs honoring the spirits of the mountains and descend through the lush, bird and orchid-filled cloud forest to arrive at Machu Picchu.   You’ll carry just a day pack as we trek between comfortable mountain lodges, enjoying gourmet Andean cuisine, delicious wines, relaxing Jacuzzis and camaraderie each evening.   Pack horses accompany our group...

Why travel to Nicaragua?

Travel to Nicaragua and enter the Land of Lakes and Volcanoes: a place where local guides will help you discover this region’s grand Spanish colonial heritage, quaint rural villages, friendly native peoples and lush landscapes. Despite its tumultuous political history, the people of Nicaragua have a lasting commitment to peace and prosperity – something they openly share with our travelers, especially families. Nicaragua is also the perfect place to get in touch with your inner-explorer: discover the colorful architecture (and history!) of Leon and Granada, hike one of Nicaragua’s 40 volcanoes, kayak along the shoreline of the largest freshwater lake in the Americas or join one of our naturalist guides to search for monkeys, birds and other wildlife in the rainforests and cloud forests. Why travel with Wildland Adventures to Nicaragua? The Guides: We work with the best guides in Nicaragua, young enthusiastic professional bilingual guides who are very family...

When planning a trip make sure to SPEAK UP!

When planning a trip it is good to sit around the computer for a few minutes and make a ‘wish list’ of what you would like to do and see during the trip. If we do not offer it on one of our group program we are happy to design an custom trip for you, it is normally no more than 5-7% more expensive.  It might be your only vacation week of the year and together we can make it as perfect as possible. You might realize that your 7 year old is really into butterflies and your 9 year old can’t wait to do a zip line canopy tour.  Haven’t grandpa never received a spa treatment, treat him with one!  Do you enjoy cooking and want to learn how to make Gallo Pinto?  We will set it up for you to have a blast cooking the rice and beans recipe....

Wild Love: A True Story

Wild Love: A True Story
"They say that in order for a marriage to last a long time you have to fall in love over and over again."   That's exactly what we did on our last trip with Wildland Adventures when we planned to travel to Peru . As you can see, my husband John is a professional photographer. As a result, I can never, ever get a hug on vacation without some serious rib bruising! HA! So if I want a hug, I just hug his back. Keeping humor in a marriage helps too! Despite seeing numerous pictures of Machu Picchu, we were blown away.  Stunning.  We were very happy that we added an extra day to be together in the Sacred Valley – amazing.  When we were on the Peru Amazon adventure we were all on a constant lookout for jaguar. Fiorella , our guide, and I were sitting in the back of the canoe...

Getting Romantic in the Galápagos

Working in the adventure travel industry you come across some incredible places and hear some pretty amazing stories. Today I wanted to share an incredible place with an amazing story. The photo above is of the  Galápagos Safari Camp on Santa Cruz Island and I think it might be the most romantic spot I've been to. This past spring I had the opportunity to travel to Ecuador  and stay at the Galápagos Safari Camp for a few nights and it was a truly remarkable experience. I have stayed in some luxury hotels around the world and I would choose staying in a safari camp like this over a 5* luxury hotel in the middle of a city any day of the week. First off you get to be out in nature and you really can't beat that! Second the tents are awesome, it is like staying in a really nice hotel but...
