New for Alaska for 2016!

New for Alaska for 2016!
Wait – am I talking about NEXT summer? But this one has barely started! True, but I don’t want you to miss out on an Alaska adventure . I am always amazed at how fast Alaska sells out for the summer and if you want to go on one of our summer 2015 cruises you can choose from… wait for it… THREE cabins between June and when the kids go back to school. Everything else, all nearly 100 cabins over three boats on more than 35 departures this summer are sold out! The good news is that 2016 dates, itineraries, and rates just became available last week. New for 2016: Family pricing available on all departures. Kids between 8 and 13 receive a $500 per child discount. Two new itineraries/ships available this year – Exploring the Wilderness of Muir on the Safari Endeavour featuring a day in the Glacier Bay National...

Machu Picchu is a don't miss travel destination

Machu Picchu is a don't miss travel destination
This multigenerational family just returned from their Sacred Lands of the Incas trip to Peru- their 5 th Wildland Adventure! Beginning in Cusco, they continued on to the lush Sacred Valley where they met with locals and hiked to remote villages and ruins.  They ended their trip at the ancient and awe-inspiring citadel of Machu Picchu with a stunning and challenging hike up to the impressive Huayna Picchu.    “We signed up for this trip because Machu Picchu is a don't miss travel destination and I like outdoor trips with the kids. Wildland's help in planning and preparation was excellent.  We had all the right clothing and accessories. Reading "Turn right at Machu Picchu" was a fantastic recommendation. Ground arrangements were prefect- always someone there to greet us. Our guide, Elkin was great.  Elkin had to deal with some of us struggling during the 3 hour hike and he took my...

Peru vs Patagonia: Choosing the Right Multigenerational Trip

Peru vs Patagonia: Choosing the Right Multigenerational Trip
Often when I am working with family groups trying to decide on  trips to South America I am asked something along the lines of: We are interested in Patagonia and Peru but can’t decide- what would be best for our kids and their grandparents? Do you have a trip that would work over the kids’ spring break? Hands down I always recommend Peru. Besides the geographical factor that a trip to Peru can often be completed with one direct international flight (there are direct flights to Lima from Los Angeles, Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, Fort Lauderdale, Miami and New York), the proximity of sights and in-country destinations are perfect for a 7-9 day adventure (the typical amount of time of a school vacation or break). Patagonia and even Argentina or Chile on their own take longer to get to and the distances needing to be covered are much further between in-country destinations....

Such a great experience and wonderful people!

Such a great experience and wonderful people!
This family for four just got back from our Best of Peru: Machu Picchu and the Amazon adventure and had a blast with their guides! “Hi-we had a great trip! Such a great experience and wonderful people! Yuri -our guide in Cusco and MP was just SO wonderful to us (and we did torture him a bit!). Max, our driver, was also a very sweet guy! Nick was funny and cool--also gave us a great business idea: b-day parties for dogs as his friend in Lima does. It was so nice to have someone guiding us through the transportation system there (often subject to change we learned!)... printing the boarding passes was priceless!! Jesus at Inkaterra  Reserva Amazonica was great-amazing English and such a nice guy! Besides brief altitude and stomach illness experienced- things were very good and I thank you! Thank you so much for everything! -Diane”   Your friendly Peru...

Guest Video From Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands

Guest Video From Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands
I love my job as Program Director for Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands anyway, but when I begin my Monday morning by opening an email from a just returned traveler and seeing an outstanding video of his family having the time of their lives makes even a not-so-great day fade to the background. Two families, long-time friends, traveling through the Ecuadorian countryside and onto the Galapagos Islands. As Bryan (the videographer) says “I am glad you all enjoyed it. Thanks for arranging the trip, the video was easy to make with all the great footage and good times.” This just puts a giant smile on anyone’s face, it says EVERYTHING about the experience of traveling with your loved ones to very special places on our planet! Check out their video: Galapagos family vacations  are not only an unforgettable experience, but also an incredible learning opportunity for children and adults. Your friendly...
