All three generations had a wonderful time

All three generations had a wonderful time
Guest review for a private family Voyage Among the Dodecanses of Greece and Turkey.   To get straight to the bottom line, the trip was an overwhelming success. It exceeded even my own expectations -- which were very, very high. All three generations had a wonderful time. This was tied for the best trip we have taken with Wildland -- right up there with Peru/Amazon. We all just loved Turkey, and actually are seriously thinking about returning next year to see more of the country. Thanks for planning such an amazing family adventure . There were so many highlights, but the gulet was probably the best. It was extremely relaxing and unstructured, and there was something to do for everyone. The crew really pampered us. There were lots of long faces in our group when our week on the gulet came to an end. Another highlight was the Nisanyan Village Hotel we...

Finding The Heart of Turkey

Finding The Heart of Turkey
This week we heard back from Christine Ye and Jeffery Marso who spent 2 weeks in Turkey with their daughters on our new Heart of Turkey Family Adventure which includes a 2 night stay at a village south of Cappadocia. They really enjoyed the homestay and their guide who joined them there. “My favorite experience was the home stay.  I loved the small town atmosphere.  The people were so friendly, generous and welcoming in the villages as well as at our homestay. Fondest Homestay memories:  I got up early most mornings to run before the others got up.   One morning I ran into town and was greeted by a small herd of goats with 2 women herding them.  Even the goats were friendly!  They swarmed around me  eyeing me with curiosity while the women tried to coax them back onto the road.  We were all laughing and enjoying the encounter....

Travel Gear for Kids: Travel Games

Travel Gear for Kids: Travel Games
Since kids are so immersed in electronics, I try to find things for them to do that are engaging but do not include electricity on our family adventures . My current favorites are made by SmartGames and the kids are excited to try out their Noah’s Ark Travel Game . Pros: It’s about the size of a CD case and folds out to lap size, which means our two kids won’t get in each other’s way.  Each game comes with about 48 levels beginning with “starter” and working up to “master”. Although these games are usually designed for ages 5 and up the master levels are really hard, I have trouble with them and I like logic puzzles! Though designed for one player, the harder levels can be solved more easily if the kids work as a team. So they can take turns for awhile, and then when they get tired...

7 Tips for Fun-filled and Fulfilling Family Adventures

7 Tips for Fun-filled and Fulfilling Family Adventures
1. Local Walks and Village Visits: Following local footpaths through villages and farmlands opens windows to family life far different from our own. Include some walking and hiking out of the vehicle on local footpaths to explore a new land and meet people of different cultures.  2. Fun and Enriching Experiences for Everyone in the Family: A family vacation should engage each member of the family in fun and enriching experiences, which may mean something different to each family member. Therefore, ather all the family around the kitchen table (or your family computer) when planning your Wildland Adventure so that everyone’s interests and ideas are included and even young participants have something fun to look forward too.  3. Guides as Parents:  Our trip leaders are family friendly and child-oriented. Our best guides for family trips are often parents themselves or teachers who are familiar with young minds so they can deliver...

7 Wild Things Not to Miss on a Belize Family Adventure

7 Wild Things Not to Miss on a Belize Family Adventure
Belize is one of the most exciting family adventure travel destinations in Central America, especially for teens and young adults. Lately, I've been planning a lot  of adventure trips to Belize for active families. It seems likes the everyone's most cherished experience involves making connections with the local cultures. Dinning on traditional native cuisine, exploring Maya ruins and learning about the history of this beautiful country. Here are my top 7 activities and experiences you don't want to miss during your family vacation in Belize . 1. ATM CAVE: Actun Tunichil Muknal is considered one of the top 10 caves in the world. Access to this Maya underworld and sacrificial site can be done by most spelunkers 12 and older. We first hike through the forest, once we get to the caves we swim in underground rivers surrounded by crystallized stalactites and stalagmites to get to the main chamber. Inside you'll...
