6 Must-have Items for 6 of South America’s Ultimate Adventures
Finding the right clothes and gear for the modern adventurer, who climbs jagged peaks, kayaks down rapids and zip-lines through cloud forests by day and wines and dines in hip, local hot spots by night, can be difficult: versatility is critical. This is especially true, when completing a multi-day or multi-week adventure in several climates, environments and countries. With airline restrictions becoming ever more rigid, being able to pack light and compact is also necessary. Outlined below are six adventure trips in South America and six items that I highly recommend to maximize your travel experiences in each destination. 1) Brazilian Amazon : ExOfficio’s Bugs Away Marigold Shirt This past year I spent almost a collective month in the heart of Brazil’s Amazon. While hosting our travelers, working with local communities, tree climbing, caiman spotting and hiking I quickly became a fan of ExOfficio’s Bugs Away garments . Not only was the built-in Insect...

Is Travel to Peru Safe?

Is Travel to Peru Safe?
Peru , a country of magnificent people, culture, customs, geography and adventure is our number one pick for family's introductory experience to South America (Read more in our blog Peru vs Patagonia: Choosing the Right Multigenerational Trip ). While our guests prepare for their upcoming and/or future trips to Peru there are several main travel questions that we are often asked about. Below is a list of the most common questions we receive, addressed for travelers to feel informed, confident and, most of all, safe while traveling to this enchanting country. 1) ALTITUDE SICKNESS: Am I going to get altitude sickness while in Peru? How do I avoid altitude sickness? If I know I’m prone to altitude sickness, and still want to visit Peru, what can I do? The Entire Trip Was Amazing

The Entire Trip Was Amazing
Listen to this solo female traveler share her experience of hiking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu ! “I had always wanted to see Machu Picchu, and for this trip I wanted something adventurous and physically challenging and Wildland Adventure’s Inca Trail Trek was the best I found! I loved the hike. The camp sites were awesome- I've never been so spoiled while hiking! Our guide, Elkin was awesome! Very knowledgeable, professional, and made sure that we all had everything we needed. The food on the trek was the most amazing- better than restaurant meals! I really appreciated that they made me vegetarian meals that were delicious. The entire trip was amazing. The people, the culture, the views, the trek... everything was wonderful.” To learn more about our Inca Trail Trek feel free to contact me. Your friendly South America Program Director, Gretchen

The Best Trip So Far!

The Best Trip So Far!
"We have used Wildland for two of our previous trips- each being a very pleasant experience, but this custom Peru trip was the best so far! Every place on this trip has been amazing. Really. With wonderful guides who really care about our having a great time definitely made a difference. At the Cruz del Condor, we weren't having much luck with condor sightings and although we told our guide Betty that it was not a big deal, she was determined to get us at least one sighting. When we did end up seeing the condors- which was indeed spectacular- it was an even greater experience because our guide was so happy that we got a chance to see it. Her enthusiasm was very influential to our experience. Our 2 main guides (Betty and Carlos) were superb! They were very passionate about their country and were very intuitive when it came...

Important Inka Trail Information and Inka Trail Alternatives

Important Inka Trail Information and Inka Trail Alternatives
The Inka Trail Trek is one of our most popular trekking itineraries- for good reason! Not only is the landscape geographically stunning with snowcapped, jagged peaks and lush green valleys brimming with crimson and ivory orchids and hummingbirds of all sizes and colors, it is the road that connects the most Incan scared sites in the shortest distance with Machu Picchu as the ultimate finale! As the trekking season in Peru is ramping up, I would like to take the time to talk about some important information surrounding availability and additionally take a moment to present some alternative, and equally great hiking options to Machu Picchu. The hiking permits that the Peruvian government administers and regulates have been completely sold out for this year from April-August. There are still permits available for September-December but they are also going very quickly. For those wishing to procure permits to do the Inka Trail...
