gorillas-474728_1920
"My husband and I both feel our trip to Rwanda, Tanzania and Kenya was one of the best, if not  the best , trip we've ever had and that is saying a lot since we are constantly traveling. Seeing the gorillas in Rwanda 2 days in a row was life-changing and the best part of our trip! Everything about the country was fascinating because ...

“If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”

“If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”
We noticed this African proverb chiseled into the wall in the Johannesburg airport as we passed through there, and it perfectly describes our trip, which was perhaps the most personal travel experience we've ever had. We expected the expansive scenery and wildlife to be amazing, and anticipated that lodges/camps would be fabulous, but what also left a lasting impression was the people we met. We are most grateful for the gift of time and sincere hospitality from everyone at Merrueshi who led us into schoolrooms, dorms, clinic exam rooms and the lab...who talked story about social traditions under an acacia tree, or world politics over tea in the lobby pavilion, or community development around the dinner table...or graciously allowed us to visit their family homestead and even sit inside a traditional home built by their mother's own hands. Alyssa and Ray at Ol Donyo entertained Elaine and I like longtime friends...

I fell in love with Africa

I fell in love with Africa
Guest review by Susan Marks from her Wildland Adventures custom safari in Kenya I fell in love with Africa in 2010 when I visited 4 different camps in Botswana . This time, I wanted to see a migration crossing so I chose a custom Kenya safari with Wildland Adventures. As I am also an avid equestrian, I wanted to visit a place where I could ride. My first outing was a sight-seeing day in Nairobi. My expert guide took me to the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, which is a home for orphaned elephants. Visitors can see them between 11:00AM-12:00N every day while they play and enjoy huge bottles of baby formula. It is an amazing place where elephants are taken care of until they are old enough to be introduced back into the wild. Giraffe Manor was next where visitors can hand feed them. I then visited the Kazuri Bead and...

I Wanted To See Cats On My African Safari

I Wanted To See Cats On My African Safari
I’m a 5 time alumni and In October/November of 2013, I took my 5th Safari to Africa: the Best of Serengeti and Masai Mara Safari . This having been my 5th safari, I was selective in the parks I wanted to visit and more specifically, the wildlife I wanted to see and photograph. I wanted to see cats! And of course I saw cats…big cats, little cats, newborn cats, old cats. On the first game drive in the Serengeti, we saw lion, leopard and cheetah. I couldn’t have been happier! In the Mara, I was privileged to see three 2-week old cheetahs, the mother had just brought them out of their hiding spot and we were among the first to see them. And on our last drive, we were able to see cheetah very up close and personal. There are 3 cheetah siblings in the Mara who were taught by their...
