When it comes to Africa aficionados, Mauree Talman tops our list. She has traveled to Africa a whopping five different times with Wildland Adventures, to both Eastern and Southern Africa. She’s visited Tanzania, Kenya, Rwanda, Botswana and South Africa, and recently returned to some of her favorite haunts in East Africa. “This was probably the best Safari I’ve been on (so far)” Mauree says. “I took so many pictures, almost 4000, that I don’t know where to begin. Each time I go thru the photos, I’m reminded of a sighting I forgot, there were so many good ones to remember. When I booked this trip, my goal was to see as many of the big cats as I could. They are my favorite, along with the other predators. So going to the Serengeti and the Mara was perfect. I saw more cats in the first few days of this trip that...

I fell in love with Africa

I fell in love with Africa
Guest review by Susan Marks from her Wildland Adventures custom safari in Kenya I fell in love with Africa in 2010 when I visited 4 different camps in Botswana. This time, I wanted to see a migration crossing so I chose a custom Kenya safari with Wildland Adventures. As I am also an avid equestrian, I wanted to visit a place where I could ride.My first outing was a sight-seeing day in Nairobi. My expert guide took me to the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, which is a home for orphaned elephants. Visitors can see them between 11:00AM-12:00N every day while they play and enjoy huge bottles of baby formula. It is an amazing place where elephants are taken care of until they are old enough to be introduced back into the wild. Giraffe Manor was next where visitors can hand feed them. I then visited the Kazuri Bead and Pottery factory...

I Wanted To See Cats On My African Safari

I Wanted To See Cats On My African Safari
I’m a 5 time alumni and In October/November of 2013, I took my 5th Safari to Africa: the Best of Serengeti and Masai Mara Safari. This having been my 5th safari, I was selective in the parks I wanted to visit and more specifically, the wildlife I wanted to see and photograph. I wanted to see cats! And of course I saw cats…big cats, little cats, newborn cats, old cats. On the first game drive in the Serengeti, we saw lion, leopard and cheetah. I couldn’t have been happier! In the Mara, I was privileged to see three 2-week old cheetahs, the mother had just brought them out of their hiding spot and we were among the first to see them. And on our last drive, we were able to see cheetah very up close and personal. There are 3 cheetah siblings in the Mara who were taught by their mother...

Jan Eckhouse has spent 40 years teaching AP Biology to students at Haddonfield Memorial High School. Over the years, she and her husband Mark have been taking select groups of teens on custom designed Wildland Adventures to Africa and South America. Students make new friends with Bushman on school safaris in Tanzania. We have a great working relationship with Mark and Jan with whom we share their goals to take students out of their comfort zone to be exposed to other environments and ways of life. Together we not only want to make a difference in the lives of their students, but also to make a positive contribution to the lives of the local people we help them to connect with in meaningful ways.In their trip review below they report on hunting with bushmen, playing soccer with Maasai, visiting local schools, and seeing more wildlife than they could ever have imagined:We...

Family Explorations in Kenya

Sleeping out under the endless African night sky listening to the timeless fireside stories of trees, the earth, and wildlife sagely recounted by Samburu tribesmen. This is exactly the type of transcendent experience that led Cynthia Cleland, her daughter and granddaughter to sign up for our newly created Kenya Family Safari which visits the remote wilds of northern Kenya and the private wildlife reserves of the Maasai Mara. Cynthia has visited Africa in the past, but was drawn back by the real adventure that our itinerary embraces; a safari in Kenya that takes families away from the popular tourist spots and deep into the African bush to connect with this raw environment and share a lasting family experience. By camel and on foot, your local guides and experts of the land will awaken your senses to often missed indications of life on every level. From bird calls and animal tracks to...
