Want to Try Vietnamese Noodles with Obama and Bourdain?

Want to Try Vietnamese Noodles with Obama and Bourdain?
To be honest, we can't actually organize dinner with President Obama and food connoisseur Anthony Bourdain (RIP) but we have long been sending our travelers to Bun Cha, the very joint they chose for their $6 lunch rendezvous on May 23.   Our Vietnam itineraries allow you to dive into Hanoi’s diverse neighborhoods, sample new foods, and experience life like a local. Start the day at Hoan Kiem Lake, where groups of people can be found practicing tai chi and aerobics in the early morning – you’re free to join in if you like! Explore Ngoc Son Temple, situated in the middle of Hoan Kiem Lake, before walking to a charming traditional coffee shop to sample a Vietnamese classic: Cà phê sữa đá (iced coffee). If you’re feeling more adventurous, try the local delicacy known as “egg coffee,” a fusion of egg yolk, sugar, condensed milk, and coffee. After coffee, stop in at a street...

Bhutan is Beautiful! - Berkvam Family Review

Bhutan is Beautiful! - Berkvam Family Review

The Berkvam family just returned from traveling to Asia on an expansive journey from Delhi to Bhutan to Kathmandu. They explored the busy streets of Delhi and watched the sun rise behind the Taj Mahal then jetted off to Bhutan for a full week of exploring this remote nation. After attending the Paro tsechu (festival) and getting to meet Bhutanese royalty they continued on to Kathmandu for a quick day of exploring Nepal's capital. Here's a little more directly from the Berkvams:

Why You Should Travel to Bhutan

Why You Should Travel to Bhutan
It's hard to describe the raw beauty of Bhutan. Only by traveling to Bhutan can you really get an understanding of the magnitude of its allure. To try to put it in perspective here's a few reasons why you should travel to Bhutan.Define: Shangri La (shang.ruh.la) – a mythical Himalayan utopia enclosed in mountains, shrouded in mist and mystery, a permanently happy land isolated from the outside world.Or is it mythical? Bhutan, aka Druk Yul the Land of the Thunder Dragon, is perhaps the closest we can ever get. It’s a land where snow-capped peaks rise above lush green valleys and primeval forests. Where dzongs and monasteries perch on the sides of mountains and Buddhist culture reigns supreme. Bhutan is a land full of ancient mysticism and surprises, where you’ll find yourself asking if this is reality at every corner. There are a plethora of reasons to travel to Bhutan but here are a...

Guest Review: Ultimate Vietnam and Cambodia: Be Ready for Adventure!
Bob and Judy traveled with us to SE Asia on our Ultimate Vietnam and Cambodia trip. They have traveled extensively but wanted to finally make it to a part of the world that loomed so large in their past. After days spent exploring Hanoi & Halong Bay, scootering around Ho Chi Minh, and watching the sun rise behind Angkor Wat we think it's safe to say the Reeds found everything they were looking for and more. Read a little more about their trip below: What were the main reasons you chose this itinerary? This itinerary covered places we were interested in seeing. Bob was lucky enough not to have been involved in the war in spite of a #1 draft lottery spot in 1969, he got a deferment teaching school. We were interested in visiting the country and area that loomed so large in our past. We were very interested in Angkor Wat....

Susan Goldsworthy (three-time alumni!) and Kirk Friedland traveled with us to Bhutan this past January and returned with nothing but rave reviews for the Land of the Thunderdragon. They hiked to the iconic Tiger's Nest, stayed the night in a traditional homestay, and wandered through the glacier-carved valley of Phobjika. Read some of their favorite memories and stories from their adventure below:We absolutely loved Bhutan - what a unique people and culture. There was an overwhelming sense of peace and goodwill throughout the country and the landscape, geography and culture were fascinating. I would rate it as one of my favorite trips and places that I have ever visited.Thank you for an excellent experience! What places or experiences did you enjoy most and why?We loved Phobjika Valley, the black-necked cranes and our stay at Dewachen Lodge - lovely setting and beautiful room.
