Why You Should Travel to Bhutan

Why You Should Travel to Bhutan
It's hard to describe the raw beauty of Bhutan. Only by  traveling to Bhutan  can you really get an understanding of the magnitude of its allure. To try to put it in perspective here's a few reasons why you should travel to Bhutan. Define: Shangri La ( shang.ruh.la) – a mythical Himalayan utopia enclosed in mountains, shrouded in mist and mystery, a permanently happy land isolated from the outside world. Or is it mythical? Bhutan, aka Druk Yul the Land of the Thunder Dragon, is perhaps the closest we can ever get. It’s a land where snow-capped peaks rise above lush green valleys and primeval forests. Where dzongs and monasteries perch on the sides of mountains and Buddhist culture reigns supreme. Bhutan is a land full of ancient mysticism and surprises, where you’ll find yourself asking if this is reality at every corner. There are a plethora of reasons to travel to...

Field Report: Trekking in Nepal

Field Report: Trekking in Nepal
A group of four friends recently finished up Nepal's iconic Annapurna Base Camp trek. Here's an update from their adventures in Nepal  about their trek in this remote and mountainous nation.  "We spent the last five days descending into terraced valleys, crossing through rhododendron jungles, climbing carefully constructed steps all to reach this climax: Base Camp. I have never been so stuck by mountains- no words could describe the elation at the spectacular images we were seeing.  I realized that trekking has become my pilgrimage, a way to give homage to the great pachamama.. I absorb spiritual qualities from the people I meet and the natural phenomena that we encounter... For the past 3 days we have had a spirit friend walking beside us in dog form, we have walked through rain and snow, helped porters and have met so many beautiful people.. Leaving behind my western views I am seeing...

Guest Review: Ultimate Vietnam and Cambodia: Be Ready for Adventure!

Guest Review: Ultimate Vietnam and Cambodia: Be Ready for Adventure!
Bob and Judy traveled with us to SE Asia on our Ultimate Vietnam and Cambodia trip . They have traveled extensively but wanted to finally make it to a part of the world that loomed so large in their past. After days spent exploring Hanoi & Halong Bay, scootering around Ho Chi Minh, and watching the sun rise behind Angkor Wat we think it's safe to say the Reeds found everything they were looking for and more. Read a little more about their trip below:  What were the main reasons you chose this itinerary? This itinerary covered places we were interested in seeing. Bob was lucky enough not to have been involved in the war in spite of a #1 draft lottery spot in 1969, he got a deferment teaching school. We were interested in visiting the country and area that loomed so large in our past. We were very interested...

Guest Review: We Absolutely Loved Bhutan!
Susan Goldsworthy (three-time alumni!) and Kirk Friedland traveled with us to Bhutan this past January and returned with nothing but rave reviews for the Land of the Thunderdragon . They hiked to the iconic Tiger's Nest, stayed the night in a traditional homestay, and wandered through the glacier-carved valley of Phobjika. Read some of their favorite memories and stories from their adventure below: We absolutely loved Bhutan - what a unique people and culture. There was an overwhelming sense of peace and goodwill throughout the country and the landscape, geography and culture were fascinating. I would rate it as one of my favorite trips and places that I have ever visited.Thank you for an excellent experience! What places or experiences did you enjoy most and why? We loved Phobjika Valley, the black-necked cranes and our stay at Dewachen Lodge - lovely setting and beautiful room. The highlight for me  was the...

Meet Your Guides: Snehaa Sundaram

Meet Your Guides: Snehaa Sundaram
Namascar! More often than not the highlight of adventure trips to India is the guides. We know how important  good guide is to a trip and we put a lot of effort into finding the best guides for every area that we travel to. We focus on using local guides in each area, ensuring that these guides possess a seemingly unlimited wealth of knowledge about their area of expertise. The last time I traveled to India I compiled a list of questions so we could all get to know our Wildland guides a little better. Snehaa was my main guide at Kanha Jungle Lodge in Kanha National park, a famous tiger park known for being one of the largest and oldest in India. Her laugh is infectious and her knowledge of everything elephant is truly impressive! Try to stump her with a question about elephants, I dare you! Snehaa works at  Kanha...
