This Sombrero is too sexy for me!

This Sombrero is too sexy for me!
This is the third Seattle Sombrero I have owned… I lost the first two (orange and red) over the years and now it is my new blue sombrero that travels with me everywhere I go…. From my short bike rides to the grocery store to my multiday trips around Costa Rica, this sombrero and I are inseparable. Here in Costa Rica we have a long rainy season, even though it rains for only one hour or two a day, this rainy weather can extend from May to November. This classic Outdoor Research Seattle Sombrero is a must have to protect yourself from light rain to serious tropical downpours, there is no way your head won’t stay dry with this Sea Somb!. The hat comes in 4 sizes and 10 colors… I love all the fun color combinations Outdoor Research offers. Besides being waterproof, it is breathable and features brushed tricot interior for...

I want to talk about my underwear

I want to talk about my underwear
This gear review has been a long time coming, for the past 4 years I've trusted ExOfficio GIVE-N-GO boxer briefs on every adventure I've been on. It honestly doesn't matter what type of adventure it is, I always make sure to pack my GIVE-N-GO boxer briefs. From camel rides in the Sahara to sleeping in snow dens in the backcountry of Montana, I know I've got a solid pair of underwear that will keep me dry and warm when it matters. More importantly, for the last half dozen international trips I have only packed 2-3 pairs of ExOfficio boxers for my entire trip. The beauty of these boxers is they are extremely quick drying, I am able to wash them at night in the shower and have a fresh pair of boxers in the morning. Plus, they are odor resistant with Aegis® Microbe Shield™ to eliminate odor-causing bacteria in fabric so I stay extra fresh on those long...

The Up For Anything Shirt

The Up For Anything Shirt
I have been meaning to write a gear review about my favorite shirt for a long time because my ExOfficio Reef Runner™ Shirt absolutely deserves a shout out. It has stood up to everything I've thrown at it; not only has it stood up to the test, but it's the only shirt that I feel like I could literally wear anywhere and in any situation. This shirt has been with me while guiding trips around the world, journeying across the Sahara, backpacking through our National Parks, downhill mountain biking in Canada, salsa dancing in Madrid's discotecas and even doing a "Man Test" in Montana. On this adventure I took only my ExOfficio shirt, a pair of pants and a furry Montana hat and headed out into the backcountry to see if I could survive with nothing else. I've even worn this shirt going out on first dates! If that doesn't show faith in a product, then...

Northface Women's Horizon II pants

Northface Women's Horizon II pants
I got my first pair of Women's Horizon II Pants (black) about four years ago for a safari in Africa and since then that’s the only type of pants I like to travel with. They are especially nice for traveling in Central America, where I work and play. Since then I've bought two other pairs in beige and olive green. They are perfect for the sometimes intense tropical weather conditions you can find at these destinations. The pants are super light weight, dry very quickly and offer a lot of mobility and flexibility for climbing, hiking and trekking. They also feature roll up cuffs with tabs to keep the hems out of mud or pools of waters and provide some relief when it gets too hot. Having a good pair of pants in the jungle is important because they can also protect you from bug bites. It has a secure-zip pocket...

The Art of Organized Packing

The Art of Organized Packing
My first step for packing for any adventure is to write my pack list and the second is to pull out my packing cubes and my RuMe Reveal Pockets . When traveling with all of my belongings on my back, I try to stay as organized as possible. I can’t count how many times my Ziploc bags have broke during travel and The RuME pockets are a great solution. They are durable, lightweight and TSA approved. The packing cubes are also great as you can see through them and they are flexible - no need to sit on them to make them close! I put dirty clothes in one, my clean clothes in another and my son’s clothes in a third. Finally, my dirty shoes get a fully-closed cube. When you get to your hotel, just pull out the cubes and you are unpacked! Or go to the beach with one complete...
