The one day KM 104 hike up to Machu Picchu via the Sun Gate was the perfect way to enter the site for the first time. Hardly any one else on the trail, plenty of interesting info from our guide as we hiked. Great experience as one finally gets to the top and suddenly looks down on Machu Picchu. The macaw clay lick was also exceptional...a very unique wildlife experience.
Both our guides William in Manu and Reuben in the Sacred Valley were excellent...Reuben in particular. I really enjoyed the fact that they shared information about their own lives and experiences with us. Both shared their experiences with the Shining Path, for instance. Lots of jokes and laughter
The jungle lodges were fun and comfortable. The staff at the Casa San Blas were great...extremely kind and helpful and totally un-phased by our late arrival and comings and goings. Hotels in the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu were superb...although we didn't get to spend much time enjoying the fancy amenities! The day room in Lima was welcome and beyond what I expected. Second Home in Baranco was great.
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS/ SUGGESTIONS:
Many thanks to Gretchen for arranging our meal in Lima at the end at Astrid and Gaston. It was wonderful. I would suggest to everyone, that one their last day they have a nice meal at one of the amazing restaurants (either the fancy-pants ones or one featuring local cuisine) in Miraflores or San Isidro before flying home."
