I'm excited to share with you that the Cayuga Collection, which represents many of the hotels we use in Central America, received the 2018 Tourism for Tomorrow award, one of the hardest awards to win due to the grueling selection and investigation process.
Just one example of the many things Cayuga does to deserve this award (unlike many hotels in Costa Rica that layoff a high percentage of their workforce during the low season only to rehire new ones a few months later) is guaranteeing year-round employment for 100% of their staff, even though the Cayuga hotels still experience the dreaded low season like the rest of the Costa Rican tourism industry and have to handle the financial implications of it. Putting people, place and planet ahead of profits may seem risky, but for the Cayuga Hotels and others with a shared mindset, it is always worth it. They have also been recognized in the past when they decided to stop selling single use plastic bottled water! (Learn more about TAP - Travelers Against Plastic)
I'm proud to be able to send our travelers to hotels that are leaders in conservation and sustainability. An important part of our "wild style" is eco-friendly, authentic travel so you can rest easy knowing your trip is having a positive impact in the local communities that you visit! Here are a few of these award winning hotels that I love sending travelers to:
Lapa Rios Ecolodge offers a deluxe wilderness adventure, featuring comfortable, attractive accommodations and personalized service in the setting of an ocean-view rainforest reserve in the Osa Peninsula near Corcovado National Park. Lapa Rios has always been among our most highly recommended rainforest lodges in Costa Rica. Wildland Adventures was among the first ecotourism companies to work with Lapa Rios and their founders, John and Karen Lewis, when they built the lodge in 1993. As a result, we enjoy a very close working relationship unlike any other adventure travel company representing the award-winning Lapa Rios resort.
Kura Design Villas is an exclusive small scale boutique hotel on the southern coast of Costa Rica where the Osa Peninsula's rainforest covered mountains tumble on to pristine beaches. Featuring six luxury villas, a 60 foot long infinity salt water pool, and a spectacular outdoor poolside lounge and spa area, Kura is the perfect place to indulge your senses. Each villa overlooks an amazing ocean view and features a private terrace with a glass veranda for watching the beautiful Costa Rica sunsets.
Isla Palenque is an exclusive private island resort set amidst 400 acres of enchanting jungle in the Gulf of Chiriqui, Panama. A luxury haven to those seeking the tranquility of nature in the raw, this beach front property nestled in the rainforest offers pristine wilderness experiences that awaken the senses and rouses the inner explorer. Fusing the best of luxury and oceanfront living, 8 romantic beachfront Casitas, secluded from one another amongst verdant palms and jungle flora, spill out onto the island's largest beach. 6 beachfront Villa Estate Rooms and Suites also sit tucked between ancient trees and blend effortlessly with the tropical surroundings.
Jicaro Lodge is Nicaragua´s most upscale nature resort located on a private island in Lake Nicaragua. The lodge is located just a short boat ride from the colonial town of Granada with spectacular views of the Mombacho Volcano across the lake. Nine private casitas serve as the perfect setting for romantic escapes, activities, and active exploration and wellness retreats. Immerse yourself in a magical island experience filled with peace, tranquility and access to a wide variety of tours and activities. A stay at Jicaro is the perfect upscale alternative to hotels and resorts in downtown Granada.
