Bhutan is Beautiful! - Berkvam Family Review

Bhutan is Beautiful! - Berkvam Family Review

The Berkvam family just returned from traveling to Asia on an expansive journey from Delhi to Bhutan to Kathmandu. They explored the busy streets of Delhi and watched the sun rise behind the Taj Mahal then jetted off to Bhutan for a full week of exploring this remote nation. After attending the Paro tsechu (festival) and getting to meet Bhutanese royalty they continued on to Kathmandu for a quick day of exploring Nepal's capital. Here's a little more directly from the Berkvams:

We enjoyed all 3 countries. Bhutan is beautiful. It is still pristine because it is very mountainous and undeveloped. Our guide, Pinto, and driver, Dawa, were wonderful. It was a privilege getting to know them.

What were some highlights?
In Bhutan, we bicycled through the Sha valley. It was a wonderful way to see the countryside. We loved it.

Hiking up to Tigers Nest was an experience we will never forget. It took a long time to get to the monastery, but we made it and it was definitely worth it!

The Taj Mahal is beautiful.  We loved seeing it at sunrise and sunset

How were your guides?

All the guides were excellent. Our guide in Kathmandu was very knowledgeable about the history of the country. We loved the Bhutan guides. We spent the most time with them. Pinto is a gentle soul- very nice man.

The Berkvams were fortunate enough to both attend the Paro tsechu, one of Bhutan's largest and most elaborate festivals and meet the beloved King and Queen of Bhutan!

When we were entering the Paro Festival, the King and Queen were leaving. He talked to many Bhutanese people along the way. He said hi to my daughter and asked her how she was. He is the people's king. The photo of him and his bride are in all the homes and public places. People love him.
