Camera Gear For Adventure Photography

Camera Gear For Adventure Photography
Probably the coolest aspect of my job, aside from traveling the world, is the opportunity to document my trips with photos and video. Luckily for me, I’m really into photography. When I was in college, I got started taking photos of skiing and snowboarding. Then I began packing my DSLR on all of my trips and I’m absolutely sure that submitting photos from my adventures helped me land my current job. Now photography and videography are a large part of what I do and magazines like AFAR have featured my work. This year I've been on two work trips and I've decided to share a bit about my gear for the budding photographers out there. My first trip was 3 weeks of  adventures in Southeast Asia and the most recent trip was a 3 week trip to Chile  to attend the Adventure Travel World Summit. The following photo won the adventure...

Exploring the Kuang Si Falls in Laos

Exploring the Kuang Si Falls in Laos
Let me start by saying that seeing the Kuang Si Waterfall was part of an incredible three-week custom trip to Southeast Asia  with Wildland Adventures that I just returned from this week. We visited the Kuang Si Falls on our last day in Laos and it was the perfect way to wrap up our time there. The falls consist of a 200 ft cascading travertine waterfall with several small falls and pools found below. The falls are about a 35-minute drive from Luang Prabang and then just a couple minutes of walking will get you there. This is a very easy spot to get to, which means it can get a little busy... So, make sure you get there early to really be able to take in all of its beauty.  Starting from the entrance you'll walk by several pools on your way up to the falls, each one with its own variation of...

10 photos and a video you won't Belize

10 photos and a video you won't Belize
Who knew that 2014 had surprises left...turns out that the highlight of my year was just last week on a last minute trip to Belize . Belize has always been on my list, but it ended up being more than I could have ever hoped for! The people, history, culture, music, wildlife, BEACHES.... How can you not be stoked when within two hours of being in a new country you are swimming with green sea turtles, spotted eagle rays and nurse sharks. Belize it! Enjoy these 10 photos and a video from my unBelizeable adventure... 1. Nightlife: I left my camera shutter open and to my amazement this is what came out, just goes to show how deep our connections in Belize are. 2. My alarm clock:  The only thing better than waking up to a Mayan sunrise is waking up to howler monkeys with a Mayan sunrise as the backdrop! Not...

I want to talk about my underwear

I want to talk about my underwear
This gear review has been a long time coming, for the past 4 years I've trusted ExOfficio GIVE-N-GO  boxer briefs on every adventure I've been on. It honestly doesn't matter what type of adventure it is, I always make sure to pack my GIVE-N-GO boxer briefs. From camel rides in the Sahara to sleeping in snow dens in the backcountry of Montana, I know I've got a solid pair of underwear that will keep me dry and warm when it matters. More importantly, for the last half dozen international trips I have only packed 2-3 pairs of ExOfficio boxers for my entire trip. The beauty of these boxers is they are extremely quick drying, I am able to wash them at night in the shower and have a fresh pair of boxers in the morning. Plus, they are odor resistant with Aegis® Microbe Shield™ to eliminate odor-causing bacteria in fabric so I stay extra fresh on those...

The Up For Anything Shirt

The Up For Anything Shirt
I have been meaning to write a gear review about my favorite shirt for a long time because my ExOfficio Reef Runner™ Shirt absolutely deserves a shout out. It has stood up to everything I've thrown at it; not only has it stood up to the test, but it's the only shirt that I feel like I could literally wear anywhere and in any situation. This shirt has been with me while guiding trips around the world , journeying across the Sahara, backpacking through our National Parks, downhill mountain biking in Canada, salsa dancing in Madrid's discotecas and even doing a "Man Test" in Montana. On this adventure I took only my ExOfficio shirt, a pair of pants and a furry Montana hat and headed out into the backcountry to see if I could survive with nothing else. I've even worn this shirt going out on first dates! If that doesn't show faith in a product,...
