Botswana Named Top Destination in 2013

Fodor’s just recently named Botswana as one of the top destinations to visit in 2013 and for good reason. Safaris in Botswana are THE place to go for a truly WILD adventure into the Africa Wilderness, far away from signs of human development like fences, roads, and cities. Botswana’s, and perhaps Africa’s crown jewel, The Okavango Delta is widely known as the Garden of Eden. The world’s richest and largest inland delta system is home to some of the last great herds of iconic mammals such as elephants, buffalo and zebra. Travelers experience the wilderness from the comforts of a tented camp, either permanent or mobile, and thus there is no “commuting” to the wildlife like in other parks and reserves. The Kalahari Desert often is traveled to as an extension to the Reserves and Parks like Okavango and Chobe with stunning open vistas, unique Kalahari game viewing, interactions with local Bushman and the best place to catch a glimpse of meerkats.

One of the other impressive things about Botswana as a safari destinations is the highly successful community conservancy model, whereby local communities protect their lands for wildlife and receive direct benefits from tourism by way of jobs, access to education and health care. Slowly but surely much of the country has become protected for wildlife in these conservancies.

There are several ways to best experience Botswana on one of our trips. You can be one with nature on our Wild Botswana Safari as you travel among top reserves staying in fly-tent camps or camps with fully en suite tents on our Great Wilderness Journey. Take a shorter trip that includes a few nights in the Kalahari before traveling to your camp in the Okavango Delta on the Desert and Delta Safari. Or you can go all out on the flying-safari of a lifetime where you fly by light aircraft from camp to camp, staying in some of the most sustainably built and luxurious accommodations in all of Africa on our Wings over Northern Botswana adventure. Nevertheless, Botswana is an unbeatable destination!
