Top 5 Reasons to Head to Costa Rica With my Padre

Top 5 Reasons to Head to Costa Rica With my Padre
My Dad and I are traveling to Costa Rica next week for a much needed vacation. I thought it would be a neat idea for each of us to write down the top 5 reasons we want to visit Costa Rica and compare them. A little about us first:  for starters, I'm in my 20's and my Dad is in his 60's. We've both been very fortunate to travel extensively, but his list is much more extensive than mine. Needless to say, finding a destination neither of us has been to was a challenge in itself. Luckily we have similar interests and both enjoy outdoor activities like hiking, rafting, snorkeling, etc...  We decided on Costa Rica in a very technical fashion... we both wrote down a list of our top 5 places we wanted to visit next and Costa Rica was the match!  Now for the reasons we want to go to Costa Rica;...

Nothing like a little hard work on your family vacation

Nothing like a little hard work on your family vacation
Call us weird, but our family does not mind a little hard work during a vacation. The important adjective here is "little." The staff at Wildland knows our preferences very well, and that is why we enjoy traveling with Wildland so much. On December 29, 2013 we began our adventures in Costa Rica with a ride through the interior highlands of the country. Our guide made stops along the way to show us a variety of wildlife: toucans, sloths, and iguanas to name a few. After a therapeutic stop for ice cream, it was time to get serious. We arrived at La Fortuna Waterfall for some swimming. Two brave family members out of four made the decision to get their feet wet. The water in the swimming hole was chilly, but the experience to swim near a gorgeous 150 ft waterfall was unforgettable. The jovial atmosphere at La Fortuna was infectious,...

See Sea Turtles in Costa Rica

sea-turtles-costa-rica When and where to see sea turtles in Costa Rica
Have you ever seen sea turtles laying eggs in the sand under the cover of darkness on a remote tropical beach? It's an amazing experience we want to give you by offering this opportunity to see the turtles in Costa Rica for free. The "rich coast" of Costa Rica is blessed with some of the most important nesting grounds in the world for four different species of sea turtles. It's a rare privilege to witness these prehistoric reptiles of the sea that have evolved for millennia to migrate thousands of miles back to the beaches where they emerged. On a night turtle tour escorted by a well-trained local guide you can actually stand just a few feet from a giant green or leatherback sea turtle with an average weight of 300 pounds and watch while she heaves and sighs for up to an hour laying 80-100 eggs before camouflaging her nest and...

Slow Down and Watch the Turtles!

see-turtles-in-costa-rica How and Where to see turtles in Costa Rica
If you haven’t experienced a guided night tour to observe any of the different types of sea turtles laying their eggs in the sand then consider traveling to Costa Rica for this incredible opportunity. Our country is a primary nest site for 4 of the main species of sea turtles. Being part of this sacred ritual gives us the chance to appreciate their beauty and innocent energy. Watching the babies hatch starting their journey through life is an amazing analogy for human kind. Some do not get to see the light, some make it just a few steps after devoured by their predators, even when entering the water there are other predators waiting, many make it beyond the ocean shores but just a few actually become fully developed adults. It is a process you can’t interfere with, if you take them directly to the water they would drown. They need to do it on their own, the short walk from the nest to...
