Peru and Galapagos Islands Adventures Part 1
Our very happy alumni travelers, Steve & Allison, are currently on a celebratory Galapagos and Machu Picchu trip honoring their 34th wedding anniversary. They sent us this recap of day one on the Peru portion of their trip. (We will feature Galapagos post-trip, promise!) Peru Day 1 Our Galapagos days are over. We got off the boat, checked into ...

El Nino - Is it Really That Bad?

El Nino - Is it Really That Bad?
We all hear a lot about El Nino and how, every 5-7 years, it turns weather patterns on their heads, adversely affecting wildlife at the same time. While this is true to a degree, no two El Nino events are the same, so predicting the outcome is never a given. It's important to understand the mechanics of El Nino in order to understand how the 2015 event is impacting a region such as the Galapagos Islands. To begin, typical westward blowing trade winds slow down. This in turn throws off the usual westward-flowing water currents such as the icy Humboldt Current, which typically bring rich nutrients to the islands. Fish and algae slowly die off, followed by sea birds which depend on those fish, and marine iguanas and turtles which depend on the algae. Moving up the chain, sea lions begin searching in new places for sustenance. Species such as Galapagos...

Galapagos Is A Great Place To Greet The New Year

lizard-2113966_1920-5
The New Year is a fresh start, a perfect time to set the course for the year to come. What better way to do that than cruising the iconic Galapagos Islands, onboard a luxury yacht? January is the perfect time to see green sea turtles nesting, while Espanola's marine iguanas turn a brilliant red to attract mates as the courtship period gets into full swing for marine and the giant land iguanas!  The water is calm and warmer, the holiday crowds have returned home, the world - and year - are reborn!   Really, wouldn't you rather be playing snorkel-tag with sea lions than shoveling snow? Call us today to snag the best cabins! Your friendly Galapagos expert, Sherry

Guest Video From Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands

Guest Video From Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands
I love my job as Program Director for Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands anyway, but when I begin my Monday morning by opening an email from a just returned traveler and seeing an outstanding video of his family having the time of their lives makes even a not-so-great day fade to the background. Two families, long-time friends, traveling through the Ecuadorian countryside and onto the Galapagos Islands. As Bryan (the videographer) says “I am glad you all enjoyed it. Thanks for arranging the trip, the video was easy to make with all the great footage and good times.” This just puts a giant smile on anyone’s face, it says EVERYTHING about the experience of traveling with your loved ones to very special places on our planet! Check out their video: Galapagos family vacations  are not only an unforgettable experience, but also an incredible learning opportunity for children and adults. Your friendly...

The Joy of Creating Memorable Adventures

The Joy of Creating Memorable Adventures
We routinely receive glowing reviews from our Galapagos travelers, which is not surprising. The Galapagos Islands are on so many “MUST SEE!” lists for very good reasons. One of my favorites comes from a single mom who recently took her 10-year-old daughter to the Galapagos:  “This trip has inspired me to continue with this type of travel - it was a life time experience. Loved sharing it with my daughter and being able to see her relate and understand and learn - the Family part of the trip was perfect in that regard. On our flight home she talked of doing her 5th grade science project on Ecuador and the equator - that says it all!” That does “say it all!” If there is any single thing I strive to accomplish as the Galapagos & Ecuador Program Director, it is to assist in inspiring travelers – especially 10-year-old travelers – to...
