Ever since Balboa crossed the Central American isthmus to declare the Pacific Coast for Spain, and then gold was subsequently transported overland from the New World to the Old , Panama remains a cross-roads in the world including expansion of the Panama Canal and new developments of interest for travel and ecotourism.
