Adventure Travel Blogging

Turkey remains one of the world's most dynamic and exotic destinations. Once traveled by ancient silk and spice traders between Europe and the Far East, it was a land coveted by many conquerors, each successive civilization leaving its mark on the culture, folklore, and way of life of Turkish people today.

All three generations had a wonderful time

All three generations had a wonderful time
Guest review for a private family Voyage Among the Dodecanses of Greece and Turkey.   To get straight to the bottom line, the trip was an overwhelming success. It exceeded even my own expectations -- which were very, very high. All three generations had a wonderful time. This was tied for the best trip we have taken with Wildland -- right up there with Peru/Amazon. We all just loved Turkey, and actually are seriously thinking about returning next year to see more of the country. Thanks for planning such an amazing family adventure . There were so many highlights, but the gulet was probably the best. It was extremely relaxing and unstructured, and there was something to do for everyone. The crew really pampered us. There were lots of long faces in our group when our week on the gulet came to an end. Another highlight was the Nisanyan Village Hotel we...

Finding The Heart of Turkey

Finding The Heart of Turkey
This week we heard back from Christine Ye and Jeffery Marso who spent 2 weeks in Turkey with their daughters on our new Heart of Turkey Family Adventure which includes a 2 night stay at a village south of Cappadocia. They really enjoyed the homestay and their guide who joined them there. “My favorite experience was the home stay.  I loved the small town atmosphere.  The people were so friendly, generous and welcoming in the villages as well as at our homestay. Fondest Homestay memories:  I got up early most mornings to run before the others got up.   One morning I ran into town and was greeted by a small herd of goats with 2 women herding them.  Even the goats were friendly!  They swarmed around me  eyeing me with curiosity while the women tried to coax them back onto the road.  We were all laughing and enjoying the encounter....

Travel to Turkey Now

Travel to Turkey Now
If you are planning to travel to Turkey but are concerned by what you might have seen on TV about the recent demonstrations on May 31, don’t let the news reports stop you! I am writing this blog from Istanbul after being here for the first anniversary of the Gezi Park protests. What started out last year as a sit-in occupation of a local park to stop government from cutting trees for the development of a new mall in the heart of Istanbul, has now turned into a longer-term social movement for democracy calling for change of an increasingly autocratic prime minister.     So we joined the gathering this year around Taksim Square to see for ourselves the local conditions for the safety of our travelers coming here this season. Upon arrival we stayed at the Senatus Hotel in the historic touristic Sulthanamet district and then moved across the Golden Horn...

Our Family Trip to Turkey

Our Family Trip to Turkey
Our family trip to Turkey was the first group departure we have taken, and it turned out to be one of the best trips. The reason it was so great was because of the excellent itinerary that Wildland put together. The knowledgeable and flexible leader we had, and the inter dynamics of our small group of 4 families. Turkey turned out to be the perfect combination of sights, and experiences, learning and fun. Sleeping within site of the Blue Mosque in Istanbul and hearing the muezzins wake up call to prayer was just the beginning of a cultural immersion in a fascinating country that is the cross roads of many civilizations. Our kids studies were reinforced every day, as we saw with our own eyes the remains of the Greek/Roman/Ottoman/and more rule. Our leader had a graduate degree in anthropology, and better yet, she was a mother of a teen, which...
