Adventure Travel Blogging

There is a special indescribable magic in women traveling together that has to be experienced to be understood. A Wildland women’s trip is a shared adventure that intentionally creates opportunities for meaningful interaction for local women and deep connection with an unfamiliar culture.

Women of Wildland Talk Travel – Part 1 in a series
Wildland Adventures was founded on the principle of travel being a force for good in this world –this is true not just for the communities that we visit and the natural spaces we journey through, but for our travelers as well. Being a single traveler should not impede your ability to grow, transform, and experience new lands so Wildland’s  women’s trips  are designed to help wild ladies sync up with like-minded companions and explore the world. The women who work here at Wildland each have stories about how travel has transformed them and we’ll be sharing these in order to inspire you to set out on your own adventure – with friends or without! Grettel Calderon is Wildland’s Latin America Program Director and she knows how travel can change you at your core. “In 2010 I took a journey to Rwanda and Tanzania, and was a part of a small group...

Journal About Your Travel for Richer Memories

Journal About Your Travel for Richer Memories
Our guest blogger is Dave Fox, author of several books on travel writing and an experienced travel guide. Wildland Adventures is thrilled to be working with Dave Fox on an upcoming hosted tour Vietnam: Travel Writing with Dave Fox. The journey will begin in the south in Ho Chi Minh City. You'll spend a few days getting a taste of rural Vietnamese life in the Mekong Delta before flying to Hanoi in the north. The trip will conclude with two days cruising on a private junk boat through Halong Bay. Of course, Dave will infuse the journey with his writing expertise, deep knowledge of Vietnam and witty humor. For more details on the trip, email our Vietnam Program Director or call (800)345-4453.  Our vacations are often short, yet we invest a lot of time and money into making them happen. Why? Because a two-week vacation lasts a lot longer than two...

Don't wait for a travel companion. Going solo may be the best!

Don't wait for a travel companion. Going solo may be the best!
One of my favorite aspects of my position as a Program Director at Wildland Adventures is receiving post-trip emails from happy travelers!  Whether they use words like "transformed by..." or something as truly remarkable as "My doctor says she is going to start prescribing the Galapagos Islands for her patients with high blood pressure....mine came way down!" it's a gift to know we positively affect our travelers' lives.  I absolutely LOVE to read evaluations from solo women travelers, people who initiated our conversations reticent about taking on a big trip as a single traveler, but didn't want to wait for someone else to join her.  This was the case with a recent traveler to Ecuador and the Galapagos, Joanne Pires, who had called me to plan a post-birthday celebration.  A bubbling-over evaluation included this gem of a passage:   Joanne P in the Galapagos "Sherry, this truly was a wonderful trip.  Thank you...

Mother-Daughter Duo Conquer Patagonia!

Mother-Daughter Duo Conquer Patagonia!
This mother-daughter duo just returned from a custom Hikers Patagonia Adventure in Torres del Paine National Park, Chile and the Fitz Roy area in Los Glaciares National Park, Argentina . Below they share some of their thoughts, highlights and advice from the trip.    "We totally loved our trip! Our hikes with Explora in Torres del Paine and later in El Chalten were terrific! Actually, all of our hiking experiences were outstanding. Perito Moreno and the penguins were awesome too.   Explora was magic and we loved everything about the experience there. Great food, great room with that insane view, great guides, great hikes. It cost a lot but we loved the easy access to everything from there right in the park.   We loved El Chalten. It has a lovely feel to it (a bit like Banff Alberta!). Chalten Suites was lovely—we loved the family owned aspect of it. They...

The Joy of Creating Memorable Adventures

The Joy of Creating Memorable Adventures
We routinely receive glowing reviews from our Galapagos travelers, which is not surprising. The Galapagos Islands are on so many “MUST SEE!” lists for very good reasons. One of my favorites comes from a single mom who recently took her 10-year-old daughter to the Galapagos:  “This trip has inspired me to continue with this type of travel - it was a life time experience. Loved sharing it with my daughter and being able to see her relate and understand and learn - the Family part of the trip was perfect in that regard. On our flight home she talked of doing her 5th grade science project on Ecuador and the equator - that says it all!” That does “say it all!” If there is any single thing I strive to accomplish as the Galapagos & Ecuador Program Director, it is to assist in inspiring travelers – especially 10-year-old travelers – to...
