Guest Review: Why Kerala Should Be Part of your Visit to India

Southern India is a magical experience for the traveler who enjoys wildlife, picturesque hill towns, temples and monasteries of great religious, cultural and historic importance. Allison Posner wanted to to see all of this on her trip to India. Laura, our Asia program director, worked with her to create an itinerary that included the region of Kerala in her trip. Located along the Arabian Sea coast, Kerala boasts some of the most sumptuous coastal cuisines and unique backwater which is always a highlights to visitors.

"Wildland was the most thorough travel company we contacted. Laura worked with us through several itineraries, made suggestions when we needed them, and worked to fit the trip within our budget. The packet that was mailed ahead of the trip was fun and helpful and the tipping advice was particularly useful."

Besides seeing the nature, wildlife and charm of the country region, Laura included some special cultural exchanges for them such as a homestay and a day on a houseboat, exploring the backwaters.

"The owners of the Olavipe Homestay were so lovely and kind. Sumi even dressed us up in sarees! Their home was beautiful and the family history was impressive. The houseboat was another highlight. It was much different than expected. A very relaxing afternoon and evening among beautiful scenery! The staff was super friendly (even pulled the boat over to pick us up some beer for dinner) and the food was some of the best of the whole trip, especially the fresh fish!"

As you can tell from the pictures, Alison had an amazing trip and highly recommends visiting Kerala when visiting India.

"We were very excited to visit Kerala after spending a week in Delhi. This trip gave us the opportunity to see another India, away from the noise and bustle of the city and to see some of the most beautiful sights and people. Being on the water, as well as in the mountains, was very special. Lots of fresh air and even wildlife, as we saw monkeys all throughout Munnar and Thekkady and even a family of elephants along the drive. All of the people we met were so kind and generous."

They also loved their guides and accommodations, especially Old Harbour Hotel.

"It was a pleasure getting to know our driver and guides who were all excellent! Each was more enthusiastic than the one who came before. From the moment we were met at the airport to the moment we were met again upon return we felt well looked after and we'll entertained.

"The Old Harbour Hotel was my favorite acommodation, with a lovely setting close to the water and many activities to choose from. It was just the right mix of small and intimate without being awkward. The staff was kind and accommodating and there were lovely dinners by the pool." Allison Posner, Wildland Alumni
