Doug and Peggy just returned from a trip to Costa Rica
in the middle of the dry season and had an incredible time, they especially loved their guide. This active couple traveled with their friends Allan and Terry visiting different areas of the country including the North, Central and South areas of the Osa Peninsula (one of my favorite places in Costa Rica) and shared some memorable pictures of the abundant wildlife they encountered along the way which was one of their main targets on this trip.
"Hi Grettel. Fabulous trip!!
The communication with you was excellent. You tailored the trip to our goals providing answers to our questions quickly. Everything was well delineated prior to our departure. The places we enjoyed the most were La Paloma, Lapa Rios, and Arenal Observatory Lodge. They were all excellent. The accommodations were great and the locations were in the heart of incredible biodiversity. The local guides were knowledgeable and available tours fit our goals in terms of educational experiences.
Onik, our private guide, was extremely well educated and dedicated to finding the answer to whatever obtuse question we had if she didn't have the answer in her vast storage of information. Both Peggy and I have undergraduate degrees in biological science. I wish my professors had Onik's wide-ranging knowledge plus her ability to transmit that knowledge in a manner that was easy to remember. Onik has a stunning mental database encompassing the plant and animal life of Costa Rica replete with interesting minutia about individual species. She also has the curiosity and motivation to keep her information current, updating her knowledge base as new information becomes available. Her pleasant personality and continuous behind-the-scene ability to organize around obstacles made the trip one of the best we've had. She has the ability to observe her clients and the flexibility to spend additional time on hikes if she sees everyone is more interested in the surroundings than other previous clients might have been. Her intellect and interpersonal skills combined with an even-keel fun personality make her an incredible benefit to Wildland Adventures.
Manuel was, basically, a superb driver. The van was new, comfortable, and safe. Regardless of our dirty feet, Manuel kept it spotless. Many of the roads in Costa Rica aren't good. It takes Manuel's driving skill to pick a path around potholes to afford his passengers a reasonably comfortable ride. Manuel knows the location of the sides and corners of the vehicle he is driving. Many times we were within several inches of dirt walls that would have scraped the side of the vehicle had Manuel been careless. We were transported reasonably quickly considering the road conditions and always safely. Like Onik, Manuel had a great personality with an easy laugh. He couldn't have been better.
All the food was good. We never felt a meal was poor quality.
Some of the animals and birds seen on this trip were once-in-a-lifetime experiences. The guides ability to see animals and point them out to us was very rewarding. At La Paloma the Mangrove boat tour with Carlos as the guide was a fantastic experience. Also, the Cano Island snorkeling tour with Danny from Spain as the tour guide was equally interesting. Both of these guides were dedicated to ensuring the tour participants were enjoying the experience. At Lapa Rios every guide seemed very good.
We will determine our next destination after we sort through the images of this trip. I don't think we saw every bird in Costa Rica nor every beautiful spot, so sometime I will want to see the Caribbean side. When Onik is available of course!
Doug and Peggy"
Wow, it is incredible how much you can see in one single trip to Costa Rica! Doug, Peggy and friends were very lucky to see as much as they did and they were even able to see even wild cats!
Pura Vida from always sunny Costa Rica!
