We were thrilled to choose Robert's photo of a sea turtle as one of our 8 alumni winners. Here's how this photo came about and what it means to him:
"This photo was taken during my fifth trip to the Galapagos. Despite traveling to the islands over a span of 20 years, the Galapagos continue to amaze me in terms of the quality of the wildlife encounters, the photographic opportunities, and the sense of awe and wonder - such as the opportunity to swim with sea turtles. I like this picture because of the combination of color, lighting, upward reflection, and the expression of the turtle as he appears to continue implacably about his activities. For me, the snorkeler in the background underscores the conflicting roles of humans as voyeur, guardian, and threat. Like many of my favorite photos, this picture resulted from a combination of being in the right place, having the right equipment - in this case, a small underwater camera, and luck." - Robert S.
