Bart and Suzanne Edises were referred to us through their friends, who traveled with us in the past. They enjoyed working with Kelsey, our South America expert, to plan a custom trip to Peru to experience Machu Picchu and the surrounding areas. Besides a day hike on the Inca Trail and exploring the ancient ruins of Machu Picchu, they also wanted to meet and experience the people and culture of Peru. Kelsey added time for them to explore different markets and museums in Cusco and Lima, and even included an Andean cooking class. She also arranged for them to visit a family farm, where they had a great time interacting and learning about the family's everyday life.
"Everything was tailored to our needs and desires. We loved the pre-departure package that arrived with so much information and reading suggestions."
They loved their guides, knowledge of the history and their passion for their culture.
"All the guides were great! Julia in Lima was terrific and we cannot say enough good things about Miguel in Cusco and the Sacred Valley. He clearly cares about passing on his knowledge and understanding of the history and culture to his clients. He was so well prepared, has a terrific grasp of English, and a great sense of humor."
The hotel that they liked the most was Villa Barranco, a boutique hotel in Lima. Located in a historic mansion, it's surrounded by art galleries, fashion boutiques, and other historical sites in the seaside district of Barranco.
"Villa Barranco in Lima really stood out. The staff were so wonderful! We cannot say enough good things about that hotel from all perspectives."
"Our advice to future travelers would be to add more time in Cusco and Ollantaytambo to wander around." (Ollantaytambo is a town and important archaeological site where most people start hiking the Inca Trail.)
