The Oliver family just got back from 17 days in Vietnam and Cambodia! The parents, Brenda and Dylan, had traveled extensively on their own but wanted to show their 2 boys, Elliot (7) and Jackson (8), a different culture with a side of adventure! Here's what they have to say about their trip to SE Asia:
The trip was an amazing adventure. Great learning and bonding experience for families
On the guides:
We really enjoyed our time with Huan in Hanoi, the kids loved Linh in Hue, Hein was great on the bike tour, Dat in Saigon was full of knowledge, Len in Siem Reap was wonderful and knew just the right pace for the temples. Thida in Phnom Penh was well informed and we loved bringing her son to the wildlife sanctuary with us. She was very generous and enthusiastic to have us try many roadside treats.
Meals in Vietnam were a bit better than in Cambodia overall. Food at the Vietnam homestay and in Hue was the best of the trip. Traveling with young children food was one of our worries but they did great and ate most of what was put in front of them even when they didn't know what it was most time!
Please recount any personal highlights or insights you experienced on your trip:
Elliot's birthday was our first night in Hanoi and they had a beautiful cake at the hotel when we got back for the evening. Really enjoyed the temples in Siem Reap, especially Bayon. The day of biking to the farm was very special. The bustle of Hanoi old quarter streets was exciting. Getting comfortable stepping into street with dozens of motorbikes zooming round. Validation that our kids are amazing travelers and proud of how well they adapted and just went with the flow of what ever was happening in the moment.
