Savings in South America

Savings in South America

Blossoming cherry trees, tulips and daffodils up north mean that the leaves of the beech trees in Torres del Paine and Los Glacieres National Park have all turned red and gold, sure signs that winter in the Southern hemisphere is not far off. But it isn’t too early to start planning your trip for next season to...

For the first time in years, the cost of travel to Patagonia has decreased! Chile has eliminated the $160 Reciprocity Fee US citizens were formerly charged upon arrival into Santiago, a considerable savings for families. If you have some flexibility with your dates and aren’t set on traveling over the peak months of December, January and February, you can stretch your travel dollars further by booking one of the discounted shoulder season departures with savings of up to $1000 per person. (See below for a complete listing of discounted departure dates.) I had such a wonderful time in Peru on my March Inca Trail Trek that I was inspired to write about why traveling during off-peak times can be quite primo and in some cases, even a better choice depending on the type of experience you hope to cultivate on your trip.

Speaking of the Inca Trail, we’ve already had many people enjoy their ‘shoulder season’ trekking adventures in Peru since the season started on March 1. Just read the recent feedback from traveler Steve Fors who had a ‘magical mountain moment’ on his March Machu Picchu Mountain Lodges Trek. It’s true that most trekkers consider May-September to be the best season for travel in the Andes and while we don’t completely disagree with this, we want everyone to know that trekking in Peru can be awesome nearly any time of the year! To help drive this message home,

Wildland Adventures will buy your permit (a $125 valued) for any of our Inca Trail Treks in October, November and December of 2014. (This offer applies to the full 4-day Inca Trail Trek for trips booked by May 31, 2014.)

Early-season discounts are available for Antarctica too. Book the October 31-November 23, 2014 Falkland Islands, South Georgia & Antarctica Expedition by April 30th & receive a $750 per person discount! November 2014 marks the start of the Shackleton centenary celebrations so South Georgia (and maybe a glimpse of Elephant Island!) will be a highlight! November is spring in Antarctica, but many photographers prefer this time for the pristine snow conditions and seemingly untouched nature of the landscapes as they emerge from winter.
