Still So Excited by the Huge Variety of Birds We Were Able to Capture on Film

This adventurous couple just returned from a 17-day customized Manu Wildlife Safari Overland Adventure. After visiting Cusco, The Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu, several areas of the Amazon, the Colca Canyon and Arequipa, see what wisdom they have to share!

“The trip was amazing; it enabled us to see many aspects of Peru--from Machu Picchu that we had heard so much about to the huge variety of animals (especially birds!)

We really enjoyed the overall impression of Peru--so many aspects! We loved all the ruins and terraces that illustrated how vast the Inca influence was and surprisingly how much was pre-Inca. Fascinating to see how much remains the same. Two of our favorite experiences were:
1) The Amazonia Lodge en route to Manu National Park- there were so many great birds!
2) In Arequipa, we saw "juanita", the ice maiden: definitely worth it—fascinating!

Our guides were good! Vignor was very knowledgeable on all the wildlife in the cloud forest and Amazon. Juri had a wide knowledge of Cusco and Machu Picchu and the ruins in the area. He radiated pride in his country and his people. It was an added bonus that Vignor and Juri were interested in photography so we shared tips. The experiences in river travel were enhanced by the skills of Henry and Anselmo. Our driver from Cusco to the river Omar had a great eye for spotting wildlife--including tadpoles!

Our accommodations were amazing! The Amazonia Lodge was a big favorite for the hummingbirds and hoatzin. Casitas de Colca was gorgeous. We felt so spoiled--and I got to feed a llama a warm bottle of milk! Sol y Luna had amazing gardens.

All the meals in Manu were amazing. They must have a 5 star chef! I fell in love with the Peruvian trout. We also liked the Cafe in Cusco--great eclectic atmosphere and great food.

Overall, we definitely felt there was more to see in each location. We’re still so excited by the huge variety of birds we were able to capture on film. Getting to see a kinkajou and a nightjar on our evening walk was wonderful!

As you can see by the pictures I sent, we loved this trip!

Thanks for all your help.

Margie and Bob”
