Trending in Travel - 2017 Edition

We've read many opinions as of late about the new and upcoming trends in adventure. So we queried our greatest resource, our world-class Wild Alumni! Following is a list of vacation fodder that's trending in 2017. One thing we know for sure, from remote African safaris and Baffin Island expeditions, to emerging destinations like Myanmar and Cuba, we always trend more to the Wild Side.

"Americans should travel to Cuba now to really understand the culture, the politics and the economy and to understand the US's responsibility with all three of those things." ~Beverly Hill

"I am so thankful that you encouraged us to visit the Osa Peninsula, it must be one of the most wild and beautiful places on earth! Spectacular, unique, and far away from the tourist crowds." ~Lori Moss and Gary Oltmans

As always, we're devoted to helping you experience the Wild World with individually crafted itineraries that cultivate lasting connections with the people and places you visit. We're now well into 2017, let's get started...

Baffin Island - Jewel of the High Arctic

Baffin Island is THE place to be this summer, as demonstrated by the quickly sold out status of our July 25th sailing. And why not? This 12-day voyage has it all…incredible wildlife viewing, sweeping landscapes, indigenous culture, and the historical saga of the doomed Franklin Expedition of 1845-48. We are now taking reservations to explore this region on our August 2-15, 2018 voyage.

Into the Wilds of the Osa Peninsula

More Costa Rica-bound travelers are going deeper into the heart of Corcovado National Park in the remote Osa Peninsula where you can, without doubt, experience one of the most isolated, unspoiled tropical wilderness in in Central America, great for hiking, photography, birding and observation of the best marine and terrestrial wildlife including anteaters, tapir, scarlet macaws and even puma.

India: Tigers & Travels

For the first time in 100 years tiger populations are on the rise and there is no better place to see them then in India. Due to a joint effort between the Indian government, local communities, and philanthropists India's national parks provide the habitat and protection tigers and many other resident animals need to thrive. New luxury properties in more remote areas, like Jamtara Wilderness Camp, provide luxury and more exclusive access to the lesser visited Pench National Park.

Botswana Safari in the Okavango Delta

The crown jewel of Southern Africa, the seasonal waterways of Okavango Delta attract myriad wildlife. This is one of Africa's most remote and exclusive safari experiences offering vast private concessions of intact ecosystems where travelers can truly disconnect from the modern world and reconnect with the wild. Botswana is in high demand right now, with a limited number of small camps.

Epic Chile Expedition: Atacama & Patagonia

The Atacama not only makes our list but also the NYTimes listed it as a #2 on their Places to Visit 2017. The otherworldly landscape of the Atacama offers something for everyone – adventure seekers, stargazers, wildlife enthusiasts, photographers. Trek up volcanoes 18,000 ft tall, see geysers in the early morning light, find all the species of flamingos in one place at the salt lakes, or observe the night sky in one of the best places to do so in the world.

Captivating Cuba Coast to Coast

Cuba is hot for a variety of reasons: Commercial flights now make travel there easy and inexpensive. Easing of people-to-people license restrictions for small groups allows for more spontaneous and personalized itineraries. And go now, before 100,000 more tourists arrive next year, or while the open door policy stands.

Myanmar

With the election of its first civilian government in 50 years Myanmar is looking to the future. Myanmar remains a window into the Asia of years gone by – remote beaches, untouched temples, and welcoming locals. With new hotels, improvements to transportation, hidden temples discovered daily, and a growing number of unique travel experiences – meeting with monks, balloon rides, and river cruises - travel to Myanmar can be luxurious and enriching.
