Unlocking the Mediterranean

Unlocking the Mediterranean

What's my favorite Wildland Adventure?

I'm often asked what my favorite Wildland Adventure is...and I have to say, I love Turkey! And I'm not alone, our Turquoise Coast Odyssey consistently receives rave reviews as one of the most culturally rich trips of a lifetime.

I admit. I'm biased. I have traveled to Turkey all my life to visit my Turkish relatives. Travel with us to Turkey and you're greeted as family by our exceptionally knowledgeable and fun-loving guides. Meet Alper Ertubey!  He has been leading Wildland Adventures for 29 years, and has introduced scores of our travelers to their favorite home away from home.  He's also the one to talk to about food...passionate about the cuisine of his homeland, there is no one better to share a meal and a drink (or two) with, Şerefe!

The combination of experiences on our Turquoise Coast Odyssey is second to none; exploring the bazaars and backstreets of Istanbul, hiking surreal landscapes leading to subterranean churches in Cappadocia, and a relaxing voyage along the coast in a Phoenician-style wooden gulet. We call on small white-washed seaside villages, hike to Crusader Castles and kayak over sunken ruins.  Visit ancient Greek, Roman and Byzantine ruins that are only accessible on footpaths from the sea. Traveling by boat also allows plenty of time to swim, snorkel, read, relax and commune over exquisite Turkish cuisine al fresco on the back deck.

This year, we've taken what we love about the experience in Turkey and have created a truly wonderful trip hiking and sailing on the Adriatic in Croatia.  Our Dalmatian Coast Adventure traverses the mountains from Zabgreb to Split via the beautiful Plitvice National Park and voyages among a thousand islands, vineyards and farms, castles and palaces to Dubrovnik. We're also designing custom overland trips for as few as two persons starting in the beautiful 14th century coastal town of Rovinj (connections through Venice) and having options of visiting the hilltop town of Istria, and in Slovenia;  Ljubjana and Lake Bled in the Julian Alps.

Both trips feature unique and beautiful boutique accommodations like our cave hotel in Cappadocia, various restored Ottoman properties in Turkey, converted palaces, country homes and farmsteads in Croatia, and a family farm in Slovenia where Hemingway wrote "A Sun Also Rises". Food and wine are featured prominently on these trips, of course!

Below are links to upcoming adventures in Turkey and Croatia this spring, summer and fall that currently have travelers confirmed who are looking for like-minded individuals and families to join them.

Keeping it wild,

Kurt Kutay
