Want a summer getaway? Why not SE Asia!?

Beng-Melea-1

Travelers are sometimes hesitant to book a trip to Southeast Asia between April and September, as it is monsoon/rainy season. It is believed that the rain might spoil the holiday. Not so! For those seeking travel without the crowds the 'green season', as some locals call it, is the time when many SE Asia destinations are at their best.

We have the knowledge and experience to find the best itinerary for the season, whether it is one of our itineraries listed online or a fully customized itinerary just for you! Here are a few destinations in the region that are well worth the visit in the green season:

Besides the fact that travelers will experience thinner crowds at Angkor Wat, all of the flora and fauna are in full bloom in August and September leaving the surroundings green with vegetation and moats filled with water. Perfect for the postcard quality photo! The rivers have filled up with water and therefore this period is the perfect time for traveling Cambodia's lakes and waterways. It's the perfect time to visit the stilted village of Kampong Khleang on Tonle Sap Lake as we do on our Ultimate Vietnam and Cambodia trip.

Want some beach time after visiting Angkor Wat? Typically May through September the rain showers are usually just short and infrequent at luxurious beach resorts around Sihanoukville. A couple days at the beach can be easily added to any Cambodia itinerary.

Northern Myanmar, including the country's highlights: Bagan, Kalaw, Inle Lake, and Mandalay, it only rains, on average, every other day. Less people and a gorgeous green backdrop in the normally dry landscape of Bagan is worth the visit in rainy season. Waterways around Inle Lake will be full and perfect for kayak explorations through villages and floating gardens. Take a look at our Myanmar Cultural Adventure to see the best of Myanmar in the green season'.

Sun worshippers should visit Myanmar in months like April and May when the weather is dry and few other travelers go to the beach, like the ever so popular Ngapali Beach on our Highlights of a Golden Land.

Thailand has a beach for every time of year!

In April, Phuket beaches are still sunny and dry. Places like the Surin & Similan Islands and Khao Lak have the best weather of the year in April and offer secluded beaches and tranquil nights. Don't forget Phuket town for its Sino-Portuguese heritage, diverse culture, and a fabulous food.

From May to October the Gulf of Thailand, such as Koh Samui or Hua Hin are your best bet for dry sunny days. The Khanom area has plenty of nice beaches to lounge or head out on more adventurous activities seeking out the elusive pink dolphins, snorkeling through the rainbow colors of the reefs, and kayaking through mangrove forests. The Island of Samui is at it best in July and August. Our Jungles and Islands of Southern Thailand trip offers some spectacular options in these areas for the green season.

Central Vietnam is best visited from April until September with sunny, dry weather when travelers can enjoy the hills of Dalat, ancient architecture of Hoi An, and beaches of Nha Trang.

Travel in Vietnam this time of year also offers plenty of festivals to choose from in April, May and June, such as the Hoi An Lantern Festival or Hanoi Giong Festival. Central Vietnam is easily combinable with Cambodia as in our Ultimate Vietnam and Cambodia trip!

Take advantage of the thinner crowds, low season rates, comfortable temperatures, and verdant landscapes by traveling in the green season. Give us a call at 800-345-4453 to find out the best options are for your summer getaway to SE Asia.
