Zambia & Botswana Safari Review: "We were constantly reminded by the animals that this was their home"

Zambia-Safari-Lower-Zambezi

Tom and Angela recently returned from a safari in Zambia and Botswana and shared their highlights with us.

"It was a great time and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, not only the Zambia portion but the Zimbabwe and Botswana experience as well. We saw all of the animals on our list except wild dogs. With rhinos in Livingstone, we completed all the Big 5 and many of the Small and Ugliest Top 5 as well. Our quick side trip to Chobe National Park in Botswana yielded great game viewing and we even saw a few animals we did not see in Zambia. Although is was rather primitive, we had a very good guide and most of the time we were by ourselves so it was well worth it from a game viewing perspective."

"Chongwe River Camp was a great camp and our guide Joseph was super. The staff along with Nezzy and Mwaka were equally good. On the first day we even got to meet and spend some time with the founder (Chris) and his children. The camp environment and set-up was great and the food and service left nothing lacking. Our game drives were good, especially the all-day drive we took deep inside the park. Probably the highlight of the excursions was the canoe trip which yielded some real adventure culminating in a large elephant family crossing right in front of us with a territorial stare down and even a little skirmish between one of the elephants and a croc on the river bank. It was a 5 minute live viewing taken from a nature show!"

"We loved Luwi Bush Camp due to its remoteness and the fact that 2 out of the 3 nights we were there we had the camp to ourselves with only one other couple joining the last day. The new camp assistant manager Becky was so accommodating and friendly. She and Angela really bonded. She even surprised us one night with a private dinner outside our chalet. The camp layout and chalets were ideal. Our guide and camp manager Lawrence was a real experienced pro in both our walks and drives with him. We had quite the adventure on one of the game drives as we came upon a large older bull elephant that had gone rogue and refused to let us pass peacefully. This resulted in his charging us several times and Lawrence having to finally put the pedal down to eventually outrun him."

"Mchenja Bush Camp was a very good camp and we were able to see a pride finishing off their buffalo meal and finally spot a few leopards while there. The camp layout and our particular chalet was very good as well as the food and service."

"At Chundukwa River Lodge, the food was the best we had and the camp assistant manager was great and interesting to talk to. We really enjoyed having a driver and car for the all-day trip back to the falls as we were able to include Livingstone Island and a microlight flight as well as a stop to see the rhinos on the way back."

"Overall it was a great trip and it was incredible to see all of the
wildlife in their natural habitat. We were constantly reminded by the animals that this was their home and we were only visitors needing to be respectful of their environment and way of life. That is the way it should be and I hope, always continues to be. Thank you very much for helping us experience all of this." Tom and Angela G.
